{Octavia's Point of View}
My wives, Ichure, Scarlett and I were sitting around the small table we used for our planning after we placed my daughter in the bed my wives and I shared so she'd be surrounded by a familiar scent when she woke. Unfortunately, I was still unclear on exactly why Scarlett had chosen to help us destroy the cult that she had been part of for her whole life.
"Okay. What I'm not understanding, Scarlett, is why help us destroy a cult that you've been a part of for your whole life. Like, why not sooner than us? You could have stopped this ages ago, right? Why not before?"
I watched as she flinched lightly at my questions and sighed, taking a moment before she looked at me to answer. She didn't waver in her answer as she stared at me.
"Yes, I could have. But it was not the right time, yet. So many things had to align themselves correctly before we were able to destroy this faction of The Anuubi. There are minimal smaller locations that will fall once they realize that Gideon is no longer alive. That will be easy enough to nip and crush in the morning if I start spreading the word of his demise."
I cleared my throat to get her attention before she continued going on her tangent.
"Scarlett, that would be wonderful. However, now that we have Guinevere back, the first thing all of us are going to do is sit and talk with her about going back to Montana, where we live."
Scarlett nodded, shifting in her seat. She cleared her throat softly before she looked directly at me again.
"Would it be too much trouble for me to travel with you? I do not wish to take anything with me except a few secret books and some things that Gab -- I mean Guinevere made as a child. Everything else can be replaced."
When she finished speaking, I looked at my wives, who simply shrugged their shoulders, so I turned my attention to Ichure, who nodded. We may not have been mates anymore, but I still trusted her intuition when it came to people and certain things. I nodded in return, and looked back at Scarlett, who looked extremely nervous. I chuckled softly, noticing a difference between the woman that had stood up to the now dead Gideon and the bundle of nerves sitting in front of me.
"Do you wish for some of my wolves to go with you?"
I raised an eyebrow as she shook her head and stood.
"I will be just fine on my own. Thank you for the offer, Alpha Montgomery."
I nodded as she turned to leave, clearing my throat to get her attention. When she turned back to me, I flicked one of my hands lightly.
"Hurry as quickly as you can, I'd like for us all to be there when Guinevere wakes."
Scarlett nodded before she waved her arms around herself and vanished before our eyes.
"I don't know if I'll ever get used to that."
Janessa popped off with a soft huff, which had the rest of us laughing.
------------------------------------
When Guinevere woke, the five of us had been sitting in the main room staring blankly at the television. My wolves had told me about the movie that was currently playing on the screen, but I couldn't bring myself to care. Janessa and Winifred were snuggled into my sides as best as they could be with the loveseat that we were sitting in. I was honestly contemplating a nap right when I noticed the shadow coming towards us from behind. I lifted my head as Guinevere came to sit on the coffee table in front of us. She looked directly at my wives and I before she spoke.
"Why would you choose to have me, only to give me away? Was I not good enough for you three? Did... Did you even love me?"
A deep snarl broke from my chest as she spoke of us not wanting her. Her eyes darted to mine and an answering snarl challenged me. I sighed and cleared my throat, knowing that we'd get nowhere if we fought. I stared back at her, wanting her to see the truth for what it was through my eyes.
"When we found out that Janessa was pregnant, we couldn't be happier. As the due date got closer, we couldn't wait to meet you. Days before you were supposed to be born, Janessa was kidnapped. There were terrible things done to Janessa, which resulted in her death. I managed to preserve her body with the help of our necromancer, but made a deal with Ichure here - " I pointed to the witch in question, who waved gently - "to be able to bring her back to life."
I stared at her, letting her digest that for a few minutes before I continued, in case she had any questions.
"Once Janessa was brought back, we pursued whatever information we could find on the cult we found you with, The Anuubi. It took us seventeen years to find where they were located here in Egypt. Once we prepared to come here, we took the flight here. We have been here for a few months, searching for anything we could. We didn't find much, but Scarlett was a huge help. She disguised herself, but still helped us with everything."
It was at that time that Scarlett cleared her throat and brought all attention to herself. She squirmed at the abrupt attention, but quickly started to speak.
"I actually had some help with all of this, and while I would ask permission for her to come with us to your home, she will follow no matter what you say. She and Gab - er, Guinevere, have a special bond."
I wanted to know more about the "special bond" that they had, but I knew I wouldn't like it. Scarlett looked to me and smiled shyly. At least she had the gall to look embarrassed.
"Alpha Montgomery, Keirstan has helped me with protecting Guinevere since Gideon brought her to the compound. She has been, essentially, my right hand in bringing down The Anuubi. If it is alright with you, Guinevere, and Alpha Montgomery, I would like to continue to use her help until all the smaller factions are destroyed."
I looked to Guinevere, whose eyes had widened in shock at the mention of Keirstan. My own eyes softened when I noticed Scarlett place her hand on Guinevere's knee. Even though she flinched lightly at the touch, I could see her visibly relax at the comfort. I sighed softly and watched the two for a moment longer before I spoke.
"I see. So Keirstan is her mate. That makes sense."
I murmured to myself, the memories of Germany coming to mind, but continued in a louder voice.
"I am okay with that, as long as you both are not gone for too terribly long. Wolves do not do well with being separated from their mates for long periods of time."
Scarlett nodded her head at me, acknowledging my statement.
"I understand, Alpha Montgomery. I will do my best to have Keirstan back to Guinevere as soon as possible. In the meantime, between the faction locations, I propose they have unlimited phone access with each other. Guinevere will need to be taught how to use a cell phone, though. Gideon was very strict about not having contact with the outside world. We still did, but it was... Limited."
Scarlett grimaced as she spoke of her late husband, and I smiled warmly.
"Let's get back to Montana and you both set up, and we'll get whatever electronics you two desire."
