{Scarlett's Point of View}

I rubbed my face tiredly.  Keirstan and I had been driving for close to four days straight as we made our way to the second to last faction that we would have to go to.  I yawned and stretched as best as I could in the car.  I grunted when I banged my knee against the glove box.

"Alright, Keirstan.  Pull over at the next hotel.  We're going to take a whole day to rest and recover.  If I have to sit in this car for much longer, I'm going to scream.  And I know you're ready to get out of this damned car and check on your girl.  I'm sure they still have her under that sleeping spell, but I doubt it would be a problem for one of them to set up a video-chat with her."

I watched as Keirstan stiffened at the mention of her mate.  She took a deep breath, but nodded in frustration.  I didn't understand how frustrating it was to be without your mate, but I appreciated the fact that she was doing her best to keep her temper in check with me.  She wasn't always able to hold her tongue, but I didn't hold it against her.  Every one of the few times that she has snapped at me for no reason, she had come to me within the hour apologizing and in tears.

While I didn't appreciate her attitude, I also knew that she couldn't control it.  Being away from your mate for so long affected everything about you.  I was honestly surprised that she wasn't feral yet.  Which reminded me.

"Keirstan.  Your next heat is coming up.  We should hopefully be finished with these factions by the time it comes."

I cleared my throat and shook my head as Keirstan pulled off of the highway, towards the hotel.

"Actually, I'd feel better if we shut down this faction and made our way back to the pack house for the duration of your heat.  Would be okay with that?"

I watched Keirstan closely as she parked the car in the parking lot of the hotel we were going to stay in.  She turned to look at me and sighed as if her entire soul was leaving her body.

"Honestly, Scarlett, I'd rather get all of these factions out of business as soon as possible, but my heat is due by next weeks time, and I'd rather spend it at the pack house in the presence of my mate.  I'd rather spend it with her, but we'll have plenty of time to spend future heats together once we get the spell broken and that God somewhere else."

I nodded in understanding, reaching behind the seat to grab my wallet out of my purse so that we could get a room.

Once we had gotten a room and were in our own beds, Keirstan had her phone set up for a video chat and was waiting for Octavia to get to where Guinevere was being held.  I was laying in my own bed as the television droned on softly in the background.  Before I knew it, I was fast asleep.

I groaned deeply as we got back on the road.  We still had a few hours drive from where we had stayed at to the faction house, but at least we were better rested than the day before.

The hours passed quickly as we switched between the two of us driving the car.  Before we knew it, we had arrived at the location we were looking for.  I sighed as I put the car in park, looking up at the house that stood in front of us.

The house in front of us looked like a worn down barn instead of an actual house.  The red of the building had faded to a ruddy brown and the whites of the window frames had grayed with age, mold growing up the sides, making the gray look almost black.  The yard around the house had yellowed with age, dying and drying up beyond belief.  All it would have taken for the grasses to set on fire would have been someone to blink wrong and it would go up in flames.
