~ Y/N POV ~
Once I had gotten back, I threw on a white sundress with a leather belt, snatching my viola case before going back into the clearing.
I squinted my eyes, not having prepared myself for the bright light that made its way through the trees above us. I looked around a bit, walking closer to the middle of the clearing before I saw a bunch of the children running up to me.
"Play for us!! Pleaseeeeeee?" One of the kids asked, giving me puppy-dog eyes. Eventually, they all joined in and I couldn't help but laugh at their antics.
"Alright alright, settle down and I'll play you a song." I said, setting my case on the ground and opening it, grabbing the instrument and bow before standing up straight again. One of the merchants that came by occasionally gave this as a gift to my family on my 10th birthday, and I eventually learned how to play it. I was mostly winging it, but I also had some very common successions I would play. One would say I basically wrote it myself.
I tucked the headrest underneath the right side of my chin, raising the bow to the strings and playing the first few notes. Not long after, I could feel myself get lost in the music.
It sounded like waltzing in a peaceful field with the person you love most, giving each other affectionate gestures. Hugs, kisses, glances; like you know how much you love them.
Suddenly, the music got sad. It sounded like realizing they loved someone else and having to let them go. But you wouldn't let go without a fight.
Before I could get to my favorite part, when the music sped up, I was interrupted with someone at my ear.
"Chief, a strange man from out of town stopped by, and wants to talk to you." It was the barkeeper, who said he wouldn't come to the festival. "He's not a merchant, and he's wearing a mask. I don't trust it."
I nodded, turning to the children and apologizing before stuffing the viola in its case and walking away.
"Let's get this over with." I thought, "I hope he's not some psychopath."
