New York was a battlefield. People were screaming and crying for their loved ones who they had been separated from. The Avengers fought valiantly against their foes but even they were beginning to feel overwhelmed. Some of them had noticed a newcomer, one that they would have mistaken for Loki if they hadn't been fighting against the Chitauri. She was dressed as a civilian, but she had weapons that did not belong here in Earth. In all, the woman was a mystery to most, but she was too hard to keep an eye on. One moment she was helping Captain America out, the next she was helping Agents Romanoff and Barton, in their separate locations. The only people she didn't seem to help were Tony Stark and Thor. She had even helped the Hulk who could only grin and mumble about her being beautiful and an angel.

The woman was tired after all the fighting, and magic she had used. She hadn't had to fight like that for a few years, the last time was several years before hand. Hydra agents were stupid, but they had numbers. Anyways, the woman was just glad that this fight had nothing the do with the octopus' cult, but instead it was as if the scene was directly out of some comic book or science fiction novel. The woman had kept away from Thor for the time being and had left the tower alone after seeing to Loki.

Tony still hadn't seen the woman yet, but he had received reports from all of the avengers that they had an ally for this fight. His mind was on the fact that he had to contact his family to make sure they had been ok. They had been scheduled to have lunch and their usual catchup but of course Loki had put a stop to that; which pissed off the man. He would destroy the God if his family had been hurt during the attack, but it would have to be subtle as no one besides Pepper knew about his family.

Finally, the battle seemed to be over, Agent Romanoff, aka Natasha was standing where the scientist was waking up after being blasted by Tony. The man looked up at the redhead assassin and smiled at her, as they both watched as the Tesseract's energy continued to fire towards the portal, gaining in strength, as the surge of energy moved through the sky. "Loki's sceptre, the energy... the Tesseract can't fight. You can't protect against yourself."

Natasha smiled back at the man, her voice soft with sympathy, "It's not your fault. You didn't know what you were doing."

The man, Selvig shrugged at her, his eyes narrowed. "Well, actually I think I did. Loki had me build in a safety to cut the power source."

Natasha's eyes widened. "Loki built in a fail-safe? Why if this is what he wants?"

Selvig shook his head, "I do not believe this is his will."

Natasha looked away unwilling to hear what the man said; however, it did make sense with what Clint had told her. Her eyes searched for Loki's weapon as her mind clicked, "Loki's sceptre."

Selvig nodded, "It might be able to close the portal," Selvig looked down. He saw a golden gleam, "and I'm looking right at it."

Meanwhile Thor was cornered by a woman who looked remarkably familiar to him; however, he couldn't pinpoint it. He was wary of her despite her midgardian clothing. Her eyes narrowed at him as anger flickered in her eyes reminding him of the pictures he had seen of the Eternal Flame. Her slim and slender fingers gripped his chin while her other hand pressed against his temple. A soft and elegant voice echoed in his mind, "Look through your memories. Look at Loki's blue eyes!"

Thor opened his eyes, only to find the woman gone. Her words were in repeat as he thought about them. Loki didn't have blue eyes he had green so why would she suggest such a... his own eyes widened when his mind showed him images of his brother with blue eyes indeed. Ever since being on Midgard, his eyes had been a pale, striking blue; not his deep forest green that Thor had grown up. Oh God, Loki had been controlled! Upon coming to that conclusion Thor flew to the balcony where Loki laid no longer battered and bruised, looking around the room as if he was searching for something or someone. His face was more pale than usual, as if he had seen a ghost, who knew, maybe he had.
