Jennie closed her laptop, tired of wallowing in sadness over missing Taehyung. She had been watching his performances, but it's not like that made up for not being able to see him months. They hadn't managed to meet up the two weeks before they went to America. And now, she didn't know when they'd be back, knowing they're probably making deals with western artists left and right.
Today was her free day - lowkey, every day was - but today, she was alone in the dorm and had resorted to missing her boyfriend.
All she had wanted were a hug and a kiss.
She sighed, and flopped back onto bed. Her phone buzzed, and she picked it up lazily. Seeing it from 'Tae <3', her heartrate did quicken but her movements did not, already anticipating a simple, 'sorry for the late reply ttyl,' or something along that.
Her eyes skimmed over the message, which read what she had expected, 'was busy preparing for an interview, sorry'. She still quickly texted back, however, hopes never fading.
u free for a call?
When he left her on seen for the next minute, but was still present in their chat, she acted on impulse and called him. It had been two weeks since she heard his voice, even a minute long call would rejuvenate her.
"Hello, jagi," she smiled when he murmured a hello.
"Are you about to sleep?"
"Yeah."
"I miss you, Tae-ah," she whispered, falling onto her own bed and staring at the ceiling.
"Well, what do you want me to do about it?" he retorted, and she slightly recoiled at the viciousness in his voice. It was like he was looking for a fight.
"Did you have a stressful day?" she asked sympathetically, "Maybe I can help—"
"I just want to be left alone."
She bit her lip, "Ah, okay, I understand. Maybe we can talk—"
"No, Jennie, you don't understand!" he yelled over the phone and her heart stopped, mouth open, stunned as he continued in frustration, "Every fucking morning, I wake up to rush for rehearsals as and interviews, I run on less than five hours of sleep daily, and I have to deal with everyone telling me, do this! Do that! Like, fuck, I just—"
"Tae, I—"
"God, then at night, you text and call every damn day, like what do you want me to do, huh? I'm fucking exhausted Jennie, and you want me to what? Say I love you? Sing you a fucking lullaby?"
Her heart had shattered.
Jennie tried to speak, but her heart was lodged in her throat. She could hear heavy breathing at the other end, as she desperately tried to blink rapidly in a vain attempt to stop her tears from burning hot trails down her cheeks.
"I'm," she whispered into the phone, a choked sob coming through, "I-I'm sorry."
Heavy breathing.
She hung up the phone, hands cold and trembling. Her lips quivered as she clutched the phone to her chest, leaning against the wall, cheeks wet with tears and slid down, sobs escaping her mouth.
She pulled her knees up, hugging them tightly towards her chest, face buried in between as she desperately tried to control her crying. To no avail.
So she stayed like that.
Until she had no tears left to cry.

"Unnie, I'll be back in a couple hours!"
