"Jennie, listen—"

"No, Chaeyoung, this deal is it! Look, this is our predicted sales increase," Jennie slammed the presentation, which displayed a line graph with an upward trend, with rigour, "We will shoot up to the top! It’s an opportunity we can't miss."

"Jen, we will lose 40% of our shareholders if this app fails! What's wrong with you?" Chaeyoung’s voice rose.

The brunette’s eyebrow rose, "Wrong with me? I’m sorry I want what's best for the company??"

"Look, you're never THIS impulsive! Shouldn't you discuss this wi—"

"Nada, shhhh," Jennie made a zipping lips motion, face bright once again, "Nope. I have made my decision. Our company can do this, definitely. Sign the deal."

"Wait but—"

"Ah Mr Choi! Let’s talk about the collaboration on our makeup line!" Jennie ran out of the meeting room, leaving an exasperated Chaeyoung behind.

She let her thick ring file fall onto the table with a loud bang, slumping into her arm chair. Her eonnie was going to make the company crumble - what had gotten into her?

"Isn't Jennie acting rather weird?"

A voice jutted in, and the younger snapped her head up to see Jisoo, standing with her arms folded at the door. Behind the raven haired woman was Jennie, talking to Mr Choi, another potential investor in the company. It didn't even last two seconds before Jennie ran off mid sentence.

"Yes," Chaeyoung hummed, "She definitely is."

Jisoo looked out of the conference room window, staring at the head of the company, "It's not like her. I don't know— maybe, I'm just— paranoid, I guess— But— it's just, I feel like, something's up, you know?— Something's not right with her anymore."

"No," the younger immediately refuted, "Jennie is always such a collected person. Whatever this is, I'm sure it will either pass or she knows what she's doing."

"Mhm," Jisoo hummed disbelievingly, "Alright. Anyway, it's almost eight, way past our release time. Wanna share a ride?"

"Sure, give me a moment to collect my things from the office."

The two ladies got up, making idle talk as they reached Chaeyoung’s office, when they suddenly stopped. The door to their CEO’s office was open, and inside was papers scattered over the floor, binders haphazardly placed on the desk, piles and piles of forms started yet unfinished. And in the middle of it all sat Jennie, working through another pile of forms.

"Jendeuk!" Jisoo gaped, "I— What— Shouldn't you finish the other piles first?"

Jennie looked up at the two frozen girls, "Oh, but I thought this pile would be better."

"But look at this!" the oldest gestured wildly to the state of the art mess the room was in. The dustbin was filled with takeaway food boxes and there were stacks of cups on the coffee table.

"What's wrong? I’m doing work."

"This isn't work. You're not finishing anything!"

"I’m trying to sign as many forms as I can, can't you see?"

Jisoo inhaled deeply, "Jennie, you've been to distracted lately. You have not finished a SINGLE stack of forms completely in the past week. Don't you realise that you're extremely behi—"

"Sooyaa, chill," the brunette interrupted crossly, "I’ve got it under control."

"Sure doesn't look like it," came the dry reply, then Jisoo added with softer undertone, "Jendeuk, I'm worried. You're barely getting sleep, and you're signing risky deals left and right whilst not even being efficient at work? Don't you think—"

"Jisoo, look," Jennie stood up, "I got this, okay? I know what I'm doing. You and Chaeyoung should just go home."

The both of them stared blankly at the girl they thought they knew and exhaled a sigh.

"If this continues, I’m calling Namjoon," the raven hair girl warned, but Jennie just dismissed her.

"Sure, sure whatever," she walked past them, and Chaeyoung furrowed her brows, "Where are you going?"

"I'm hungry!"

"But your forms—"

"Later!"

The two exchanged a look, and the blonde admitted, "Okay. Something's up."

They were right. The next day when they came in, Jennie was nowhere to be seen, even until after lunch. Which was unusual, because all she had done the past few days was scurry around and attempt to do multiple things at the same time. And run on less than 4 hours of sleep daily.

"Jennie?" Jisoo knocked hesitantly on the door to their CEO’s office. When she didn't get a response, she just said, "I'm coming in."

The room wasn't very different from last night. But Jennie clearly hadn't gone home. Two more mugs were stacked at the corner of the table, the dustbin had been cleared but the trash bag was placed at the corner of the room instead of being dumped down the chute. Two more piles of unfinished forms were added and in the middle of it all, stood- no, sat— Jennie.

A blank Jennie. Her eyes didn't even bother lifting to see who entered. Her mascara was smudged, hair thrown into a careless bun and shirt rumpled from sleeping on the table. Visible tear trails marked her cheeks as she finally looked up at them, eyes hollow.

Her eyes welled up with unshed tears.

"Jennie!" Chaeyoung rushed towards the brunette, barely able to take in the mess she was in.

Jisoo watched, mouth agape, as Jennie stared at her, and blinked. And a tear slipped down her cheek, and another, and another. Slowly, but relentlessly, and the girl’s face morphed into a cry.

The older shakily took out her phone and called the number Jennie had been avoiding for the past week.

"Hi. Namjoon-ah."
