"I've won again!," the girl proudly said as she pointed her sword at Allen's neck. Her blonde hair seemed to glow under the sun.
"Why can't I ever win?," Allen said in defeat as he fell to the grassy floor, exhausted.
It was once again summer in Lyfast, which meant each day was met with sunny days and the heat. William had Allen train with the girl once a week for a little over a year now. The rest of his training days are focused on magic, and if he has extra time he trains with his sword.
"I'm just better than you," the girl giggled as she went to help him up. Allen reluctantly took her hand and got up.
"William, this is too difficult. I can never beat her!," Allen complained.
"Well, would you rather go against me?," William chuckled.
"No, I'm good!," Allen quickly answered, already knowing how that would go.
"Allen, stop being an idiot. You'll get better eventually!," the girl encouraged him.
"Yeah, maybe one day," Allen remarked.
William had Allen train with the girl since she is a better opponent for Allen than William himself. William is much more skilled in fighting with a sword, which makes it extremely difficult for Allen, even when William is going easy on him. He wanted him to face someone closer in age and experience, although the girl was obviously more talented in swordsmanship than Allen.
"You're not going to get better with that kind of attitude, Allen," William laughed. "Keep up with your training more, and one day you can win."
"But no matter how much I train, I don't get better!," Allen complained. "She's always better than me!"
"Maybe if you stop complaining you could learn something," the girl stared at him, hands on her hips.
Allen just gave her an annoyed look for a moment before looking at the wooden sword in his hand. If only he could grasp William's training better. Why couldn't he learn how to use his mana? Why did he have to be born with such low mana amounts?
"Allen," William walked over, kneeled down and put his hand on Allen's shoulder. "Training comes with effort and patience. You won't get better by being negative about it. Keep working hard, and one day you'll get there. I promise"
"Fine," Allen responded while stretching.
Suddenly, the scenery was switched to the fall of that year, right before winter. It was then Allen realized he was in the middle of a dream, and he was watching his younger self during his training days.
"Do you really have to go?," Allen asked the girl while William and her were getting ready to leave.
"Sorry Allen, but my mom says I can't come here anymore," the girl responded, a sad look on her face.
"William, does she really have to go?," Allen asked, trying to get a different answer.
"Allen, this is out of my control. Her mother found out about the training and no longer wants her to be involved with it. She has to leave," William explained.
"Will you ever come back?," Allen pleaded.
The girl looked back at him. She walked over to him and held out her pinkie. "Pinkie promise"
"Pinkie promise," Allen repeated as they made their promise.
William and the girl finally got on the cart, ready to head back to the big city of London. Allen has yet to know what London is like, so he hopes he could go there someday. William has told him all sorts of stories of London. Lyfast is where he lives and the only town he is accustomed to, aside from the other few his father has taken him to. But he has yet to go to a big city.
