Chapter 32

Julies pov

I turn around and see someone that I didn't want to see for a long time.

"I haven't seen you in a while. I'm so glad that you could join us" They say.

"I ran away for a reason. I don't need to talk to you dad" I say.

"Your boyfriend and I have been talking and we both agree that you should not be allowed to hand around with that Luke kid anymore. He is no good for you and brings nothing but drama" my dad says.

"That is not fair! Luke is my best friend and he does more good for me than you ever have!" I yell.

"That is no way to speak to me young lady!" He yells back.

He starts walking towards me as I back away.

Luckily, Nick stands in front of me.

"I've let you speak with your daughter now please leave" he says.

"But-" my dad starts.

"Please leave" Nick says sternly.

My dad grabs his jacket and storms out of the house.

"Thanks Nick" I say.

"Sit" he says, patting the spot next to him and sitting down. "What movie do you want to watch?"

"High school musical!" I exclaim.

"Okay" he chuckles.

Maybe drunk Nick is nicer and more fun to be around than sober Nick. Or maybe he's usually drunk and this is sober Nick. Either way, I like this Nick.

We turn off the lights and start the movie.

"Troy and Gabriella are such a cute couple. They're not cuter than us though" he says, putting his arm around me.

Usually, coming from Nick I would see this as a red flag but I feel safer tonight. Instead of removing his arm, I nuzzle my head into his chest.

Nick pulls his phone out and snaps a cute photo of us.

"I can't believe they pulled that whole thing off!" Nick says as the movie comes to an end.

"I know right! I've seen it so many times and it still amazes me" I say.

"I'm sorry about what happened with your dad earlier" he says.

"It's not your fault" I say.

"You can still hang out with Luke by the way. I get that you guys are friends and work together. I'm also sorry about the way I've been treating you recently. I've been drinking some alcohol to help me through some stuff but I'm trying to sober up now. I promise. I hope you can forgive me" he says.

"Of course I can Nick. I know how difficult times can be and we all have our ways of coping" I say.

"Thank you so much Julie" he says.

"Oh my god!" I yell.

"What? Are you okay?" Nick asks.

"We should do face masks!" I say.

"I've never done that before but sure" Nick says.

"Yay! But can I borrow a hoodie and some shorts please? This outfit is kind of uncomfortable" I chuckle.

"Sure I'll go grab you something now" he says.

"Thanks"

I pick up my phone and see a bunch of missed calls and messages from Luke.
