to my dad.

I wanted motor oil
And pats on the back
I wanted to know about vehicles
And how to fix them
I wanted to be a mechanic on the side, like you

But you never taught me how.

I remember you saying curse words
And jumping in my skin
I remember you coming home from work
And staying in my room with my sister
I remember you dancing in your underwear

But that was the only happy memory.

You never really spoke to me
And I know how hard I tried to get you to
You never brought home anything besides pizza
And I know that's why I love it so much now
You never expressed your love to me

But I held my sadness deep inside.

I longed for your dedication, dad
Your knowledge
Your wisdoms
Your jokes
Your love

But they never came.
