Máni POV

The wind, the sky, the stars, it was my salvation, my safe place. It's been hours since diner with my family, since my day sleeping away behind my illusion and reading over the many scholars teaching me of what I already know, what I already saw.

I would say the highlight of my day would be seeing my family, but it's hard to compare to sitting on the roof with a slice of cake in hand. The thick yet moist bread danced in the nutty flavor of almonds while mixed with the creaming velvet sends me over the edge.

Watching as the stars shift behind the light of the moon, I feel a surge of energy flow through me. Noticing a star falling, I smile, reading about this is a book when I was younger. Watching the bright trail, I notice it rotating, curling closer and closer to New Asgard.

Frowning, I continue to eat my cake, watching as the burning rock crashes into the ocean miles away from the shore. Looking at the sinking object, I use my magic and lift it up in the air. I watch as the air circles around it while bringing it closer to me. Looking at the rock, I notice something inside of it.

Tearing it apart, I let the rock skink to the bottom of the ocean, revealing a giant black wolf. From its scares and bloody fur, it was obvious it took considerable damage, that it was dead. Taking down my last piece of cake, I smile, "Now this is exciting."

Standing, I let my hand rub through its thick fur, releasing my magic, my energy; I feel my dark magic run through its veins. Watching as the wounds heal, the blood warms, and the body functions, its eyes shoot open.

Meeting its deep green eyes, I stare, mesmerized; they look just like Fathers. Smiling, it starts to snarl angrily, feeling its power grows, making it expand in size.

"Can't stop growing, huh? Mother would chew me out if you broke our humble home so let's fix that."

Looking up at the crescent moon, I hold out my hand, reaching out for it. Letting the night, the darkness flow through my fingers, a white rock forms in my hand in the shape of the thinning moon.

Pulling the wolf over to me, I pierce its ear, making it whine. "Sorry, I just need to put this on."

Attacking the sturdy rock, I watch as it calms down, as it shrinks to the size of any other wolf lurking on this planet. Pulling it closer to me, I pull it close; looking up at me with its green eyes, I begin to search its memories.

To my surprise, I saw war, bloodshed, and a woman in black and green. It was my Aunt, my Father, and Uncle; they told me about her, but to see her in action shook me. I followed its past, leading up to it fighting Mother and being slain by a green beast.

Trashing around in my arms, I pet its fur, "It's ok, Fenris, no one will hurt you."

Taking us down, we rest in front of my house, "Hungry?"

Looking at me suspiciously, I open the door, walking through only to turn my head to see the black wolf follow me. Looking through the fridge, I pull out some meet, specifically hare, but he didn't seem to care. Setting it in a bowl, I hand it to him, pleased as it basically inhales it. Getting another bowl for him to drink some water, he takes it thankfully.

I knew deep down this would be a start of a beautiful friendship. It was only confirmed as I put the bowls away and headed upstairs. He follows me and laid beside my bed as I drifted off to sleep. I would think it would jump out the window, but when I woke up, he was still there, laying peacefully.

Sitting up slowly, his head pops up, looking at me cautiously. Smiling at him, I get ready for the day. Opening the door, he follows me downstairs to greet my family.

"Good morn- Absolutely not."

Fathers words are cut short; at the sight of Fenris, Skadi is frozen in her seat while Mother's eyes sparkle. "Oooo! Who is this?"

Walking over to us, Fenris growls at her; before I could do anything, he pounces only for Mother to hold him down with the light touch of her hand. Frozen in place, she smiles a bit before rubbing his fur, "There is no need to fight, I'm sorry for hurting you, but you left me no choice. I hope you continue to be my son's companion."

Fenris melts in her touch; I chuckle at the sight; looking up at Sister, she continues to eat, "Nice wolf."

Father groans, "How did Fenris, Hela's wolf, even get here!"

While Mother gets some meat from the fridge for him, I take a seat next to Skadi. Looking up at Father, I give him a mischievous grin before pointing up, "Fell from the sky."

He looks at me, "And how did he rise from the dead?!"

"Brought him back."

"And why did you do that?!"

I shrug my shoulders, "Thought he looked cool."

"Máni, he is a dangerous beast who has eaten and killed more than Midgard's population. He's dangerous, deadly and-"

He gets interrupted by something behind me, Skadi and I hold back a laugh as Mother rubs Fenris's belly, making his leg shake. "You are the most handsome wolf I've ever seen! Yes, you are! You are more than welcomed to stay here."

Fenris seemed please, and with a wicked smirk, I turn to Father. He looks defeated, "He's your responsibility."

I pop a berry in my mouth, "Ok~."

After breakfast, I head out with Fenris; walking the streets, I take him far to the outskirts. Feeling the sun on my brown skin, I watch as he grows with the lack of people. Towering over me, I smile, "Wow, very impressive."

Running off, I can practically sense the playfulness rolling off of him. Lifting myself in the air, I chase after him, flying around him with great speed. Laughter fills the air as I toss some snow at him. He doesn't seem to mind as he tries to jump on me. Succeding, he licks my face making me groan, "Noooo!"

Laughing afterward, I look up at the could sky as the sun peaks through. "Come on."

Letting me go, we walk closer to the linger woods, seeing my favorite clearing he lays down. Relaxing, a book appears in my hand, leading me to lean against his large body and read.

As much as I crave excitement and discord, I can't help but appreciate the simple moments like these; I can't help but be my Mother's son.
