Chapter 9
Caden's POV
I carried along down the alley, eyes peeled for Kent. He shouldn't be too hard to find, should he?
"Caden."
I turned around to find him standing a few feet behind me. I'm surprised he still has the courage to approach me after what he's seen I can do. "Kent."
"Did you hurt her?"
"What?" I asked, confused.
"Hayley." He pointed out, his hands in tight fists at his sides. I've never seen him so worked up over anything. "I saw you come out of that club. So, did you hurt her?"
I raised a brow. "Why do you care?" I questioned and started to approach him. "Maybe I didn't. Maybe I did."
"You bastard. If you did anything, laid one finger on her..."
"You'll what, Kent? What? You know damn well you can't take me on alone." I spat at him. "Unlike you and the rest of the fallen, I have powers again. Strong powers. Unlimited powers-"
"Evil powers." Kent added.
I tried hard to not grin. Let him think what he wants. The more he thinks my powers are evil, the more scared him and the others will be of me. Only I know that my powers Egan had given to me aren't at all evil. I'm sure of that. Egan had assured me they weren't.
"Sure. Evil." Maybe I shouldn't kill him. At least not yet. He could go back and tell the others about my so called 'evil' powers and scare them. It'll just make mine and Egan's job a whole lot easier of disposing of them. And a lot more entertaining.
I heard footsteps coming fast from behind me. Kent's eyes widened when he noticed the person behind me. I turned just in time to see a fist flying to my face. I caught it and faced the attacker. Hayley. "You fight a lot, you know that?"
"Apparently. I'm surprised you're actually fighting back this time." She countered, pulling her leg back to kick me. Before she could, I pushed her into the wall.
"Caden, don't!" Kent tried to make a move towards us, but I put my hand out to stop him.
"Move and I will kill her." I warned him. He stopped in his tracks with a grunt. I turned back to Hayley to find her already glaring at me. "You followed me." I whispered so Kent wouldn't hear.
"I can't-"
"Lower your voice." I told her, gesturing to Kent. She did as I said with a annoyed sigh and continued.
"I can't just let you kill him, Caden. I care about him."
I stole a glance at a frustrated Kent and turned back to Hayley. "Well, then I have good news for you. I'm not going to try to kill him."
Her face brightened almost automatically. "Seriously?"
"Yet." Her face fell quickly. "It's what I have to do. Just promise me after I'm done speaking with you, you'll try to stay away from him. Also away from Kandice and the others."
"No way. Only if you promise to not hurt Kent."
I groaned in frustration. Why does she have to be so difficult? "Haven't you listened to what I just said? I can't do that."
