Chapter 3
Caden's POV
Stunning. That's the perfect word for her. She was truly stunning. But what was she doing here? "What was-"
"I just met her. It's weird because I've been breaking in this place for a week now after midnight and I've never seen her before. She's cute, isn't she?" Kent asked me, practically beaming.
Amazingly cute, my thoughts whispered. I shook away those words. I can't get off track. "You're aware that we're losing our powers, right?"
Kent shrugged, his smile faltering. "It's not too bad."
"Not too bad?" I repeated in anger. "Our wings are deteriorating so much we can barely use it. The powers we had up there are gone except our fighting skills. Plus, these powers the Fallen Ones are given are weakening as well! And that's 'not too bad'?"
"Is it bad to be a human? They're free to do whatever they want. They can eat until their stomach implodes, go to parties, have a job. They can flirt and even love."
Has he gone mad? Since when is being a human a privilege? Humans are weak and good-for-nothings. "But they're not angels, Kent. You don't miss your powers you've had up there?"
He raised an eyebrow at me. "Powers? Don't you mean if I miss Him?" I nodded reluctantly. "Of course I do. He'll always have my love and faith, but what if he created this path for us? Let us fall so we could feel human for once? Know why we protect them?"
I looked away, my gaze focused off into the distance. "So you choose the humans over the angels."
"In my heart, I'll always be His angel." He pounded a fist to his chest. "But I feel l need to stay here."
He's decided. Nothing can be done then.
After the talk with Kent, I cut through the alley and walked into the familiar building. I had no idea why he chose this place. It's so random. Once I reached the rooftop, I saw him standing there near the edge of the railing. "Egan."
Egan turned, a smile plastered on his perfect face. He had on a long dark coat over some black slacks. His now short black hair blew in the cool breeze over his pitch black eyes. He literally looked evil at that moment. "Caden,"
"Did you talk to him?" I asked before he could say anything else.
Egan nodded. "I did and he refused my offer."
My eyes lingered over the clear sky, anywhere but his face. Why couldn't Peter just agree to it? Does he not miss his powers? He was one of the top ranks up there and down here makes you feel completely powerless. That's the reason why I fell in league with Egan. He promised me power. Relentless amounts of it. Dominant power over the humans.
There's no way to go back to Heaven without the use of our wings. And ones that fall become human might not age, but can die like a human. And where they go when they die is only Hades. We can't go back to Heaven. It's not possible.
"I talked to Kent. He's stubborn. He chooses to live among the humans." I informed him. Kent was the only one I had hoped would actually agree with me, but he didn't. He was always so naïve.
"Then you know what must be done." I could feel the grin tug at his lips.
"Of course,"
We must kill them. It's the only choice. They'll only get in the way of our goal. Then after them, we'll try to talk to Leonel, Jasper, and Kandice. And if they don't join us, we'll have to kill them as well. There's no other choice.
