Chapter 12
Hayley’s POV
Kent grabbed ahold of my elbows to steady me, seeming like he noticed my uneasiness with the kiss. “Kent—“ My words were cut off when I saw that bright light again. I shut my eyes quickly and pulled away from him. “It’s too bright.” I murmured, raising an arm to shield out the light. What was it anyways? I could barely see anything.
“Hayley. Look.” I could hear the amusement in Kent’s voice.
“I can’t see anything Kent. It’s either you’re way too bright or I’m going blind. Shut off the light!” I exclaimed, afraid to open up my eyes.
I heard him sigh. “Okay. Now open your eyes. You won’t believe this.”
My eyes slowly fell open. After adjusting to the normal light, I looked over at Kent. I gaped at him. “Are those…”
“Yeah.” He laughed while looking around his back at his stunning white wings. It looked as if he doubled in size with those wings. And they looked extremely gorgeous. So unreal.
“They’re beautiful.” I mumbled, got off the couch, sauntering over to him. “Wow.” I cautiously ran my fingers over it in awe. They were incredibly soft. And warm. And…alive. “So this is you. As an angel.”
Kent nodded giddily and looked at me. “You’re definitely not human, Hayley. I felt you inside of me. As gross as that sounds, I did. You brought back my immortality.”
“All this just from a kiss?”
“Yes. Just from a simple kiss.”
“That’s…”
“Amazing, right?”
I kept my eyes on Kent’s wings. “No. I wasn’t going to say that. I was going to say really crazy.” I laughed without humor. “Extremely, freakily crazy. Am I going to grow wings too?”
Kent frowned. “I don’t think so. You must be a half breed like the girl in the prophecy. But I hope you’re not actually her.”
I swallowed hard and looked down. Changing the subject sounds really good right about now. “Can you hide them? You know, so no one else sees it?” I asked him.
“Of course.” He nodded. I watched with wide eyes as his wings curled in behind him and simply disappeared.
“Wow. And every angel has wings like yours?” I asked, then rethought it. “I mean, of course angels have wings. It’s just…what I’m saying is why I can’t see everyone else’s wings?”
“Because they don’t want you to see it, Hayley. Kandice and Jaspers wings, as well as all of the Fallen’s wings, are deteriorating. It’s not a pretty sight to just flaunt around.” Kent explained.
I furrowed my brows. “Why are—Holy crap!” I covered my eyes when I saw a complete stranger completely naked in front of me. Eww, I think I just saw his ‘junk’!
I heard Kent sighed in annoyance. “Leonel…”
“What?” He had a velvety and thick English accent. I didn’t even know angels have accents.
“You’re naked.” Kent clarified.
“Well I only came down to get a towel, mate. If you give me one, I’ll be on my way.” He replied impatiently.
