Chapter 11

Hayley’s POV

“Are you sure?” Kent pressed again.

“For like the millionth time, yes. I’m helping you guys. I’m already too deep. Why not get deeper?” I shrugged, looking up at him.

“You must not be deep enough since Egan hasn’t seen you yet. You still have a chance to escape all this.” He explained to me.

“I can handle it, Kent. I’m not a damn baby.” I recalled the scene when Caden said that I couldn’t handle what was happening. He doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I can handle anything.

“I’m not saying you are, Hayley. You’re so touchy.”

“Whatever.”

Kent leaned back against the back of the couch, looking up at the ceiling. “Oh, hey Jasper.”

I turned around to find Jasper hovering over Kent. His eyes narrowed and he turned to me. “What are you still doing here?”

“Rude much?” I mumbled, rolling my eyes.

“To you? Of course. So answer my question,” He propped his elbows on the chair, scowling at me. “What are you still doing here?”

I huffed and turned around so I wouldn’t have to look at him. “None of your business. You know, it would be healthy for you to not be an asshole once in a while. You could get a shot at the ladies. Or even land a nice job…”

“Hayley, don’t start with him.” Kent nudged me warningly with his elbow. “What is wrong with you? Why are you so aggravated?”

“Nothing’s wrong with me.” All of a sudden that room was too stuffy to me. I could barely breath. My head was spinning. I just really wanted to punch something. I jumped to my feet and stormed out of the room out the back door. It was really hot out today and the sun’s rays felt nice on the skin my gray tanktop left bare. I looked around the empty alley, recalling the time Caden and I shared our first kiss. The moment we touched and we felt the odd connection.

“Fuck!” I yelled angrily. Forget him. He left me. It’s all done with. Whatever we had, that few minutes of bliss, is gone. I h—hate him. God, I can’t even say I hate him without hesitating.

I punched my fist against the brick wall hard. I could feel the skin break open and the warm blood run down the back of my hand. Squeezing the hand into a fist, I rested my head on the wall and took a shaky breath. Damn him. I hate what he’s doing to me. I mean, we weren’t even a couple. We only kissed for like three minutes! But I still feel as if my heart was ripped out even thinking about him just leaving me.

Suddenly, I heard the door open but didn’t even bother to look up and see who it was. Kandice, Jasper, or Kent. I don’t care. Nothing matters anymore. Why do I still want to even be involved in this angel business anymore? “Leave me alone.”

“Hayley, what’s wrong with you?” It was Kent. I then heard him move towards me and grab my wrist with the bloody knuckles. “What happened to you?”
