Chapter 21

Hayley’s POV

I crossed my arms over my chest as I looked over at my father. “Dad? Do you really know them?”

“No.” He answered firmly and took a step in front of my mother and I. He glared at Egan and Caden. “Now, get out of my house.”

“You’ve never been this uncooperative, Henry. I wonder what’s gotten into you.” Egan smirked and for a second, as he moved closer towards my dad so they were face to face, I thought he’d hurt him. But he didn’t to my surprise. His eyes darted between mine and my father’s for a moment before he turned and walked out the door.

I stared at his retreating back, confused.

“I’m sorry about him. You can say he’s having a bad day.” Caden apologized to my parents. “But we’ll be on our way.”

He then left too, shutting the door behind him.

My parents and I stood there in silence. All that was going through my head right now is how I want an explanation from my dad. He knew them for fuck’s sake! He knew angels and he didn’t tell me. And I have a feeling he knows about me as well.

I ended the silence when I started for the stairs. “I’m going to head to bed. Good night.”

“We’re talking in the morning, Hales.” My dad told me. I had the urge to glare at him, but thought against it.

“You really shouldn’t be hanging around boys like that.” My mom added.

“I know.” I murmured and ran up the stairs two at a time. When I reached my room, I noticed that my window was open, Especially from how cold it felt inside. But I don’t remember opening it.

Furrowing my brows, I stepped over to it and peered outside. There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary in the backyard, which was good. Firmly shutting my window, I turned around as soon as my bedroom door shut and a hand wrapped around my mouth. I started to scream into the muffled hand until a familiar voice whispered in my ear.

“It’s just me.” Caden murmured against my ear.

I ignored the tingles that ran through me as I felt his lips on my skin and pulled his hand away to turn and look at him. “Caden?”

“And me.” I heard a voice add from behind me. I glanced back to find Egan in front of the closed door. He tilted his head to the side in amusement. “You don’t seem too happy to see me as much as you do Caden.”

I turned back to Caden and frowned. “What is he doing here?”

“I’m just feeling the love.”

I rolled my eyes, continuing to look straight Caden. “Is there something I’m missing?”

“No.”

I eyed him. “Something’s wrong, isn’t there?”

“There’s nothing wrong.”

“Stop lying to the girl, Caden.” Egan let out a sigh and fell back against my bed. He looked around the room, grinning to himself. “Nice room, by the way.”

I pressed my lips together irritably. “Caden.”

“Look,” Caden stepped closer to me, so close I had to look up at him. With him this close, it was hard for me to keep my hands to myself. “We just need to talk to your father. I don’t want you involved in this. Remember what that gypsy said.”

“How many times do I have to tell you that it’s not going to happen?”

His jaw locked and before he started to look away, I grabbed his chin for him to look directly at me. “I know you won’t hurt me. Nothing and nobody will ever make you hurt me. Understand that.”

He grabbed my hand that was on his chin and used it to pull me even closer to him. His soft green eyes searched mine for a moment before he finally answered. “I can’t, Hayley.”

“Caden—“

“Can we go now?” Egan groaned out. “I think I’m going to vomit from all of this.”

Caden growled under his breath. “Then go, Egan. No one’s stopping you. I’ll meet you outside.”

“Fine.” He got off the bed and walked over to us. He looked down at me and grinned. “See you later, Nephlim.” He chimed and pulled open the window and slip out.

I rolled my eyes again and turned to Caden, only to have him crush his lips against mine. I let out a soft gasp of surprise against his mouth and immediately moved my lips against his own. He picked me up by the hips so I could wrap my legs around his waist. I was so lost in the kiss that I barely noticed how we ended up on my bed with him on top. I wrapped my arms around his neck, trying to pull him even closer to me. If that was even possible. A whimper then escaped my lips when he pulled away a bit to look at me.

“Every time I see you, I want to kiss you. Even when you’re not with me, I want to kiss you.” He whispered, kissing my lips softly and pulled away again. “There are things I’m not telling you, but you have to believe me, it’s for your own good. I love you too much for you to get hurt.”

I froze, searching his face in disbelief. “You love me?”

“Of course.”

I almost cried in joy at that. I cupped his face in my hands and kissed him again. “I love you too.” I murmured between kisses. When I said that, his kisses became fiercer. I moaned against his soft lips, loving how they felt.

“How long are you two going to make out?” Egan hissed from outside.

Caden and I pulled away from eachother quickly with a sheepish smile. He gave me one last peck before climbing off from on top of me as I followed in suit. “I have to go.”

I wrapped my arms around myself, suddenly cold without him near me. “Okay.”

“I love you.” He said again, making my heart swell with just those three words.

I smiled at him. “I love you too.”

He smiled back and disappeared out the window.

I have to say, this was the first time Caden left without leaving me with a broken heart. He might keep saying that he wants to leave for my own good, but just like me, he can’t stay away.

I looked up at towards the ceiling and pressed my lips together. We have this pull on eachother because of this prophecy thing. I have a feeling that staying away from eachother isn’t an option.
