Falling cloth... rivers... worms jumping... ooh, butterflies...
"Zenitsu."
Bouncing marble... shy girl... now, we're falling down, down, down...
"Zenitsu!"
Zenitsu's shoulders perked up as he heard his name called. He took the saxophone's mouthpiece out of his lips and looked up. "What is it?"
"How're you doing with that thing?"
Two or three hours ago, he had been given a saxophone out of nowhere. He was told to figure out how it works, then left in a room by himself, no guideline or tutor to help him out. This wasn't a bother, though, as Zenitsu knew how soundwaves worked, and almost instantly, he was playing notes at a rapid pace.
"Pretty good!" Zenitsu smiled. Probably the first time in a long time that he smiled for anything other than Nezuko's sweet presence.
Giyuu twisted the doorknob and entered Zenitsu's room. He shared it with Gordon and Tsutomu, which means lots of mechanical parts and drums of film reels were scattered around the room, but in a neat way. A window provided most of the light in the room, but the ceiling bulb was still on, it's yellow light being reflected by the metallic surface of Zenitsu's saxophone.
"Really, now?" Giyuu asked, raising his eyebrow.
"Yeah!" Zenitsu replied. "It's not that complex. It's pretty easy. Note A is on this button, Note B is on that button, I can play a chord with these buttons ove-"
"Yeah, yeah, okay, I get it." Giyuu interrupted, raising his hands in a dismissive manner. He had no interest in music's mechanics, and he only appreciated it as a pleasant mixture of tunes. "Play me something."
"Anything?"
"Anything you want."
Zenitsu thought for a good while, then placed the mouthpiece on his lips, drawing in air to his lungs. His brain ran like a freight train, forming a mental mapping of notes on the spot. Soon, he closed his eyes and started playing.
But before he could get to the really fast notes, Giyuu raised his hand, stopping Zenitsu.
"Alright, that's good." he said. "Now, you know what your instructions are, don't you?"
Zenitsu nodded. "Walk in with the band, plant the blades in the restroom, play along with the band."
"Good memory. Now, since you're going to be in a band, you have to learn some songs to play along."
Zenitsu raised his eyebrows in confusion. "Wait, what?"
Giyuu raised his hand, and in them were a few pages of sheet music. Zenitsu took the papers, his hand trembling.
Oh goodness, what have they done?
Giyuu looked at him funny. "Is something wrong?"
"This... THIS..." Zenitsu stuttered, his voice raising at every mention of 'this'. "THIS ISN'T JAZZ!"
Zenitsu threw down the sheet music, sprawling them all over the floor. "THIS IS SOME POP BULLCRAP!"
Giyuu scratched his head, not understanding a word he said."Zenitsu, this is the song list. The perfomers are required to stick to it, no ifs, no buts."
"Oh, no, I'm not pissed off with that., I can deal with that." Zenitsu said. "But... these guys... how do they have the AUDACITY to call themselves JAZZ PERFORMERS?!"
