"H-Hey, Muzan, why are we walking through this part of town?" The woman said.
That was the exact question Muzan wanted her to ask.
Muzan had been waiting for this moment ever since he was a child. That wasn't even an exaggeration, as he couldn't help but be hyperactive, constantly tapping his foot on the ground. It freaked the woman out, but in a few seconds, her concern would become irrelevant.
He had left the rest of the demons to themselves last night. Operating in the day was quite risky, but if it concerned anything relating to the Blue Spider Lily, he wouldn't care what time of the day it was. Years of contemplating, years of tracking, years of discovering, and he had finally made it to the finish line. It was almost a little sad for him, but he had to remind himself that now was the best time. The slayers were all but decimated, and there was no imminent threat stopping him from achieving his goal. That stunt Okayata pulled was too close for comfort. With a forest-full of wisteria rushing through his veins, he was in a very vulnerable place. He had to achieve immortality now.
The doctor's office was exactly as the Yakuza records stated. A hidden, possibly illegal establishment in the more questionable side of Tokyo. It helped that the city's quest for modernization came with taller and more uniform buildings to hide behind. He couldn't exactly remember where he had been turned into a demon with the Blue Spider Lily, but he knew the man. More importantly, he knew the man's son. Shin Kusomoto. Son of Taigen Kusomoto. Less a doctor, more a scientist, like his father before him.
"Hey, Ayumi." Muzan muttered. "Do you know why I like places like this?"
"You like places like this?!" Ayumi freaked out, trying to pull her hand away from Muzan's. Unfortunately, He had already anticipated that, grasping her arm with an inhuman amount of strength. The woman was, for lack of a better term, a cheating whore. Muzan always found it fascinating how the most desperate people were the easiest to manipulate.
However, she was not his to take. He eyed the alleyway before him, shadows shifting in the darkness. He had brought his fellow demons a celebration gift.
Ayumi's eyes widened as she saw the demons stepping closer to them. "No, no, no, you can't be serious..."
"Of course I'm not serious." Muzan smirked as the demons grabbed ahold of Ayumi and slowly dragging her into the alley. "I never loved you anyway."
"N-" Ayumi attempted to scream, but the demons who held her had already brought a gag. They threw a rag over her mouth, silencing her.
"Thanks for the treat, boss!" One of the demons waved, smiling.
"Any time." Muzan smiled back. Manipulation was a difficult art to master, and it was nice to see people happy with his hard work. Too bad they couldn't see the entire masterpiece of manipulation, since they ARE the ones being manipulated as well. It was like a spider web. Impossibly complex, yet springing from a single being.
After Ayumi's screams faded into nothing more than muffled echoes, Muzan decided to continue on. He strolled through the alleyways, stepping through spit puddles and homeless people. Although he was quite thankful for how dark and grimy the place was, giving him protection from the sun, it was disgusting to look at nonetheless. He had always wondered why he hadn't been sent to a normal doctor, but he guessed that secret medicines like the Blue Spider Lily weren't very easy to come by in professional environments. Besides, the government didn't care about this place. If a family of poor people died today, they wouldn't even bat an eye. That's just how the world worked.
After all, natural disasters are always expected to affect the poor first.
After a few moments of rummaging through the grimy spaces, he found the place. A board of plank wood secured only by the lack of a doorknob. The door itself had the kanji for life, "生", painted in a deep red color. A beacon of life surrounded by a pit of death, inaccessible even by those that sit on the very edge of it. It was an ironic thing, something Muzan could smile at.
