"OOIII! LOOK AT ME! FRESH MEAT FOR ALL! GET YOUR MIDNIGHT SNACK HERE!"
Giyuu couldn't help but cringe at how obvious of a lure Inosuke's bellowing was. Fortunately, the demons fell for it, turning towards him and starting the chase.
"Alright, GO!" Giyuu shouted.
He, Inosuke, and Shinobu sprinted through the streets, the cold asphalt clacking under their feet. Giyuu risked a look behind him. The demons were running straight for them, their blood red eyes luminescent in the night. A few demons broke into the wedding venue, only to find it empty. Ahead of them, the demons on the rooftops started dropping down the street to try and intercept them.
Fortunately for the slayers, none of them were looking beyond their heads, where Kanao, Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Nezuko, and Hirohito ran closely behind, along with the crowd of civilians they had rescued earlier.
Kami, please don't mess this up. Giyuu thought.
As the rooftop demons dropped in front of them, Giyuu drew out his blade and started cutting down everyone in his path, Shinobu doing the same from his right flank. Inosuke, however, was behind them both, still bellowing and provoking the demons behind.
"HAAAHAHAHAHA!!! C'MON! HIROHITO'S RIGHT HERE! REMEMBER WHAT THAT IDIOT MUZAN'S GONNA DO IF YOU DON'T CATCH ME!!!"
The demons' faces darkened upon the realization of their severe punishment if indeed they were to fail. Now fearing for their own lives, they all started sprinting faster, much faster than before.
Giyuu would have scolded Inosuke right then and there if it wasn't for all the demons dropping in front of him. What is that boy thinking?! Doesn't he realize that if he says those things, they'll eventually catch up with us?!
Before Giyuu could say these things, Inosuke, without hesitation, whipped out his sharpshooter rifle from his back and started firing at the speeding demons behind while running in reverse.
Oh. He does realize it.
At that moment, Inosuke, still firing his rifle and running backwards, looked behind him, at Giyuu. The glass eyes on his mask reflected the moonlight above, making it seem like his eyes were shining at him, like he was looking proudly at his father, thinking 'Look, Dad! I can do this now!'
And maybe, just maybe, Inosuke really was thinking that.
Giyuu caught himself smiling at Inosuke and whipped his head forward. Affection comes later! We still have a job to do!
They kept rushing through the streets at a steady pace, Giyuu and Shinobu defending the front, Inosuke keeping away the demons from behind. All the while, The civilians jumped across the rooftops, cloaked by the evening gloom. Soon enough, they were reaching the far edges of the southeast corner, where the street split, one to the north, one to the south.
Now for the riskiest part...
"Now!" Giyuu yelled. Shinobu nodded and tossed a few wisteria bombs at the demon horde behind. The bombs exploded, basking the demons in a painful blanket of stinging pain. The demon horde stumbled into a complete stop, which gave the three slayers enough time to climb up a nearby building's fire escape. The blocks surrounding the wedding venue were all abandoned (by Muzan's orders, puppeteering the Emperor), which was quite easy since all the surrounding buildings were businesses and restaurants. Once they reached the building's rooftop, Giyuu and Shinobu looked over the ledge.
The wisteria smoke was still present, but quickly fading. The stunned demons laid across the street, writhing in pain, cursing. A few demons were recovered enough to stand up, looking around for the slayers' presence.
