-(Two Days Later)-

(Odasaku's POV)

I took another sip of my drink as the bartender finished wiping the last cup from the dish rack. As much as I wanted to get out of this place and continue my search for Ango...I knew (Y/N) would give me an earful of how dangerous it would be for me to be walking around.

"Just stay hidden for now Odasaku. Wait till I get rid of a few enemy's and it's a little more safer."

Thinking back to that moment I realized just how much (Y/N) has changed. Once a police officer, thinking of nothing but justice and that every criminal should be punished...now she was an executive for the Port Mafia, and a skilled one at that. She's already received many praises from the higher ups, including the boss.

"Keep the change." I placed my bill on the table and bowed at the bartender before leaving. The cold night air stinging my skin as I walked. I looked up at the city around me, lights sparkling everywhere from the signs and building lights around the area.

I walked a little farther before making my way near the darker parts of the city. I noticed a little playground was in front of me, and after squinting my eyes I noticed a familiar individual sitting on a spring rocker near the back of the playground.

"Yo Odasaku!" Dazai cheered, smiling at me. I waved and made my way towards him. I took a seat on the rocker next to him and nkticed he had to ice pops in his hand.

"What're you doing here?"

"Hmm? Oh, I just thought I should sit here for awhile and enjoy the cold night." He replied.

"Ah...I see."

"What about you? What're you doing here?"

"I had a drink and then just walked around." I grabbed a cigarette from my pocket as well as a lighter. I then lit it and placed it in my mouth.

"I see, sounds like something you'd do." He said, taking a bite of his ice pop.

"So...did you learn anything new today?" I asked, as I blew out a puff of smoke.

"Well only one. You remember awhile back when (Y/N) got captured by those men?"

"Of course...why?"

"Well, I thought that Mimic and them were the same group considering they both do the same things....but they aren't."

"Oh, and how do you know that?"

"Well me and my men captured one today in fact, a non-mimic person. The people from mimic always carry around old gray guns with them, which we assumed was what symbolizes them. So when we caught our guy today I immediately tried to see if he had one...but he didn't. Not even any of his comrades that he was with that killed themselves had any."

"So we have to deal with two groups now?"

"Sadly," Dazai stretched as he finished the ice pop in his left hand, "another pain in the neck for us."

"I see. That indeed adds more trouble for us now."

"Oh yeah, why aren't you with (Y/N) trying to find clues on Ango?"

"Ah...Mimic attacked us a few days ago. I myself met who I am assuming was the boss of Mimic. It was weird when I was fighting him...almost as if..I was fighting myself. But anyway, he threatened me and told me to fight him when the time was right before disappearing. So (Y/N) is trying to make it a little safer for me so I don't need to worry about it."

"Hehe, she must've threatened you to not make any moves Odasaku~"

"Yep. Threatened to tell the old man to stop making me curry if I did anything without her."

"Hahaha! I see it worked well." He giggled.

I smiled at him and looked up at the sky, the starts shining brightly in the night sky above me.

"Hey...Odasaku?"

"Hm?"

"What's your dream?" I continued to stare at the sky for a moment before looking at him. His eyes filled with curiosity and wonder, he truly wished to know the answer to this.

"Hmm...it's a rather plain one if you ask me."

"Ehh? It's fine just tell me~"

".......I want to become an author. Because I wish to be one is the reason why I don't kill anymore. I hope to someday, be able to write my own stories..one where life isn't as bloody and scary as this."

"Hmm, that sounds interesting! I'm sure you can do it Odasaku!" He smiled.

"Maybe...What about you? What's your dream?"

"My dream?" Dazai pondered for a moment, his ice pop melting in his hand. He took a big bite of it before turning to me. "To have a purpose."

As plain and boring as that sounded, those words coming from Dazai's mouth had a whole lot of meaning to it.

"A..purpose?"

"Mhm~" he smiled, "A reason why I should keep breathing..why I should keep walking and waking up in this world. Something that makes it..worth it." I could feel the sadness from his words. He truly felt that he had no reason fro being alive....

"Who knows you might've already found it." Dazai perked up as I said that.

"Oh really?"

"Sometimes, when you're trying to find a reason to live you might try to always find the big things...when really you miss the small and important things that may just be your reason."

Dazai looked utterly shocked as I finished that, as if I just told him how to find buried treasure. He stared at me for a few seconds more before laughing quietly to himself.

"You know, you can be very wise sometimes Odasaku." He said, smiling again.

"Oh really, I haven't noticed." I said, making Dazai laugh again.

If anything I always felt bad for Dazai. He never had anyone whom he could truly rely on and be with.

Whenever he had jobs to do he always get it done, even if it meant his life was on the very line. Basically, he was meant to be in the mafia. With the knowledge and ways he knows he could take over the bosses seat one day if he wanted to..

But I knew that's not what he wanted.

A purpose? I think there might be more to that then I'm thinking. But I do know this..

Ever since Dazai met (Y/N) he's always been smiling more often. Being more cautious with the way he acts and lives, and more considerate towards others. Maybe just maybe (Y/N) is....

"I'm gonna get going then! (Y/N) is making curry for me and hatrack today, I think she might invite Akutagawa too." He stood up and held out his hand towards me, "Wanna join us?"

I stared at his hand, the coldness of the night making me shiver slightly as I looked up at him, "Sure why not." I grabbed his hand and he helped me to my feet, making our way out of the park.

If anything, all I wanted was for Dazai to be able enjoy the light of the world instead of the darkness...and if (Y/N) is the reason he's more in the light it's all the more reason why...

I should do my best to keep it this way....so that Dazai no longer has to suffer like he has been for the past few years.

A place where my one true friend can finally have a taste of the beautiful lightness of the world..
