alright so let me get the current fnaf lore straight:
william afton and henry make animatronics
william aka purple guy kills some kids and they possess some animatronics. intrigued, he melts them down, makes some new animatronics and injects them with the molten shit to see if it brings them to life which it does. the new animatronics are made to capture kids that he can bring back and use to experiment with this weird shit called remnant that is what makes these things possessed so he can maybe figure out how to live forever
his daughter elizabeth rlly likes circus baby and, despite her fathers warnings, goes near her and gets lured in with icecream before getting clawed and dying then possessing baby. william is understandably upset and realises he has another kid, aka the crying child who may be named evan so thats what im gonna call him, is also obsessed w the freddie fazbear line and tries to scare him away using weird brain manipulating disks that make him see horrible hallucinations of the characters (fnaf 4) combined with placing cameras in his room and a tracking golden freddie bear that he talks to. whether from the 'nightmares', something else horrific he saw happen at a pizzeria or both, evan becomes scared of the resturant, but this isnt enough to keep him safe as when he goes to the restaurant for his birthday party in 1983, his bully older brother micheal and his friends force him on stage and he gets bit, which kills him. he then possesses the golden freddie costume
time goes on, william kills some more kids, most notably henry's daughter charlie who was killed alone outside and then possesses the puppet and gives gifts gives life to the other animatronics and a girl named cassidy who then co-possesses golden freddie with evan (seems to have all the control tho) and was killed along with 5 others in 1985
then in the future, sister location happens with micheal being the nightguard. he- now a completely unironic zombie- wants to know what the fuck is going on with his dad and swears to seek him out. then jeremy the nightguard gets killed (presumably by mangle) while working in fnaf 2, becoming the bite of '87 victim. then fritz, maybe micheal using a fake name, gets hired and fired, then the same in fnaf 1, then anywhere from while this is all going on to years later, william goes back to an old building, dismantles the machines to get more remnant information i guess even though he already had it (?????) or maybe he was just scared of them or trying to remove evidence like we all originally thought idk. the ghosts revolt and chase him to the damp back room where he hides in the spring bonnie suit and gets Sprung. he then bleeds out and dies, that room is walled up, and he's left undiscovered until 30 years later (later starting from after fnaf 1), he's rediscovered and set loose in a spoopy haunted house type place based on the restaurant chain where micheal is ALSO working and also maybe micheal was actually the kid from fnaf 4 based on some of his hallucinations look these games are a convoluted mess. anyway that game ends with the building burning down but because its purple guy and he's a cunt he doesnt die
at some point here henry builds lefty, who captures and holds the puppet, aka his daughter
THEN we move onto fnaf 6 where micheal is again working as the protagonist. he has to salvage all the animatronics from the past, now scrappy and ruined, and survive them all for 5 nights until the end of the game where henry shows up in person out of nowhere and tells everyone he pranked them, they're all trapped in the building and he's gonna set it on fire and end the years of tragedy once and for all. he apologises and comforts everyone he needs to, including micheal, gives a long speech to his daughter, a sick burn to william and then everyone including him and micheal are burnt alive and all the spirits are set free
EXCEPT for 2 (3????)
cassidy hated william so much that she refused to pass on. instead she sticks around to keep him trapped in his own personal hell and torments him by making him work night security shift against every single monster he created so he dies over and over and over again for all eternity with no escape. whether evan is still trapped is unclear, as is whether the other animatronics are the real souls also trapped and unable to move on because of cassidy or just replicas she made. one line from faceless bonnie implies the former, but other lines from the nightmare/illusion/phantom characters implies the latter. either way, cassidy themself will never move on, unless the in-universe character old man consequences convinces her to, or, in a more meta way, the player puts down the game for good
oh and also theres an ai copy of william in vr that switches consciousness with the players, therefore escaping into reality and matpat thinks he's a cult leader
