Cassidy had already collected herself and aimed the piece of glass directly at Kayla. It wouldn't do anything, but I'm sure it made her feel more helpful.
"Get the hell away from her." Cass hissed at Kayla. She took a dangerous step closer. I felt the knife press harder.
"I'll slit her throat." Kayla threatened. I let out a gasping sound. I knew she didn't mean it, but the malice in her voice was directed at me. It was honestly terrifying.
"Kayla. Kayla. Love, it's me. It's Cora. You're okay." I assured her, frantically. The knife loosened before falling to her side.
I stepped away quickly and Cassidy was at my side asking if I was okay. "Cora? Shit, baby, I'm so sorry." She cried.
I stepped to her before wrapping my arms around her shaking body. The door was just barely cracked, so we could get out.
I examined her body which was difficult because there was barely any light. "Did they hurt you?" I asked.
"Ryan, he just, he hit me a couple of times, but he promised to come back with a gun." She sobbed. I tightened my grip on her.
Cassidy cleared her throat. I pulled away from Kayla. "Who's she?" Kayla asked, gesturing to Cass. She wasn't asking in a rude way. If anything she seemed to admire her for trying to protect me.
"Cassidy, Kayla. Kayla, Cassidy. She's like me." I answered. Kayla gazed at her, looked into her eyes.
"Nice to meet you. Sorry about the whole glass threat thing." Cass told Kayla. Kayla shrugged.
"You were trying to help my girl. Thank you." Kayla retorted. Cassidy broke into a small smile.
"We should go. We seriously need to find a phone." I told them. Cassidy nodded and stepped beside us.
My hand found it's way to Kayla while Cassidy's nails dug into my elbow as she held on to me tight. I didn't say anything because it seemed to make her feel safer.
We walked slowly out the door. "Think they have a landline?" Cassidy ask. I glanced at her.
"Seems smarter than a cell. Think they have a kitchen in this hell? There is always some kind of phone in old kitchens." Kayla spoke.
It's a long shot, but it's the only one we got. We shuffled around. "You know, that's be a great idea, if we knew our way around this bitch." Cassidy whined.
"Fair point. Should we split up?" Kayla asked, but not like she actually wanted to.
Cassidy and I were quick to a response. "Hell no." We said in union.
"That's how people die in those scary movies." I pointed out which made both of the girls clinging to me for life, laugh.
"This isn't a movie." Kayla retorted for arguments sake though she had a small smile on her face.
"Sure as hell feels like one. A fever dream or some shit." Cassidy told us.
"Just another Tuesday." Kayla grinned. I gave a smile as we pushed on.
"Cassidy, use your sense of smell. I need help." I urged her.
"What do you mean? How?" She asked.
"Close your eyes. Ignore everything expect what you think the kitchen here would smell like. Follow it." I explained.
I could do it, but she needs to learn how to do this. Just in case. "I- I got something. It's like this burning smell." She screeched but quietly.
"It's not much to go on, but it's something." Kayla spoke.
"Alright. Cass, lead us to the burning smell." I told her. She grimaced.
"I was afraid you'd say that." She said with a frown, but began leading the way nonetheless.
We followed slightly behind Cass, but we were always touching her. "How much farther?" Kayla asked with a squeaky voice.
"Just another corner." Cassidy assured us. She was right. We turned a corner and there was the kitchen.
It was bleak. A stove, sink, small island is all it consisted of. "Look for a phone. You find a weapon, all the better." I told them and grudgingly walked a few steps away.
We began pulling drawers as quietly as possible. I grabbed two small sharp knives and stuck them up my sleeve.
I was only in socks, a long sleeve shirt, and a pair of jogging pants. I am not sure when I changed. Guess I forgot.
Kayla was still in her clothes, but Cass had the same outfit on as me. "Stick this in your shoe." I instructed Kayla. She grabbed the knife and did it.
I knew Cass wouldn't know how to put a knife in her body without cutting herself, so I just gave her a large knife to hold.
I grabbed a butcher knife as well. "Anyone find a phone?" I asked. They both shook their head.
"Damn it." Kayla stomped which resulted in me shushing her. We continued looking for a phone.
"Hey! I got one!" Cass whisper-shouted. Kayla and I practically ran over there. There was a small landline hidden behind boxes.
I grabbed the phone and hold a small beep sound. It worked. I let out a small laugh.
Kayla was grinning. I quickly typed in my fathers number. It rang twice before I heard his voice. "Banks." He spoke.
"Dad." I spoke with a crack in my voice. I heard a sharp intake of breath.
"Babygirl? Princess, are you okay?" He asked quickly. His voice matched with sheer terror.
"It's me. It's me. How, how far away are you guys?" I asked. My hands were shaking until Kayla clamped her own over mine.
"C? C, we are at the location." I heard my twins voice ring in my ear.
I pulled the phone away and gave it to Kayla. "Talk to them. I am going to try to listen for their cars." I told her. She nodded.
I let my eyes close. I cleared my mind, searching for the sound of an engine. Of a gun cocking. Then I heard it.
A low rumble. The engine of one of the cars. Behind this wall. I backed up from the wall.
I motioned for Kayla to hand me the phone and she quickly pressed it into my palm.
"Guys, I am pretty sure we are right in front of you." I informed them.
"No. A wall is in front of us, stupid." I heard my dumbass of a brother say. Dylan, I am going to beat your ass.
"I meant behind the wall, moron." I retorted. He let out an 'oh' sound.
"Alright, we will break it down. Give us a second." My Dad said.
"No. I've got it." I told him before giving the phone back to Kayla. My blood was pumping faster it seemed.
"How exactly do you have it?" Cassidy asked as she stepped up beside me.
"I don't," I told her which put worry on her face. "We do."
"How in Anderson's hell do you expect to break a wall down?" She half screeched. I gave her a look which made her understand.
"I need you to get angry. As angry as you are at this place. At Anderson. Channel it. Put all of your anger into the wall." I told her.
So, that's what we did. Then, we started punching the wall.
