I woke up coughing. Smoke was filling the air. My head was spinning and pounding. "Kayla?" I croaked as I tried to move my body.
My body was screaming not to, but I had to find her. I was still in the car, but I couldn't see Kayla. I tried to open my door. A tree was in my way.
The window was shattered. I climbed through it. Falling to the ground with a groan. I decided to examine my body. One of my arms were definitely broken. A few ribs. They'd heal.
I had blood dripping down my face. I stumbled onto the road. Then, I saw her. She was lied on the ground.
"Kayla." I tried to yell, but it came out as a croak. Despite my body screaming, I limped toward her.
I dropped to my knees, putting her head in my lap. Her injuries weren't any worse than mine. Other than the large slice on her stomach.
Using one arm, I took off the jacket Kayla had and tied it against the wound.
"You have to wake up. We need to go." I whispered. I heard footsteps before I saw them. I pulled Kayla closer to me.
"Go? Go where, Miss Banks? You are right where we want you." I lifted my eyes to see none other than Liam Jones.
A man came over and began to pick Kayla up. "Get your damn hands off of her!" I yelled, pulling her toward me.
Hands shot out to grab my wrists. I winced. My eyes flickered to see Ryan Jones. I struggled as the man picked up Kayla.
"Let me go, you bastard." I hissed to Ryan. His grip only tightened. I began to kick to get away. Normally, I could overpower him. Easily. But I was so weak and exhausted right now.
Liam came over to grab my legs. He tied them together despite my protests. Then, they threw me in the back of a van with Kayla.
My hands were bound, but I crawled toward her. I moved her hair out of her eyes. "You need to wake up, love."
She didn't for a moment. I would have thought she was dead, but I could hear her breathing. Almost hear her heartbeat.
Then her eyes opened. Her legs were tied like mine and her hands bound. "Fuck." She groaned and raised her tied hands to her head.
She stared at them in confusion. "Are you okay?" I asked, trying to grab her face.
"Cora? What happened?" She asked, her lip quivering slightly. I glanced around.
"They hit us. It's Liam and Ryan Jones." I told her. She sighed. She brought her hand to where I tied the jacket right around her body to stop the bleeding.
"Minor cut." I assured her. She gave me a look that obviously told me she didn't believe me.
"Are you okay?" She then asked. I grinned, but I knew it didn't fake anything.
"Peachy." I answered. She gave me a grim smile that I chose not to return.
The van came to an abrupt stop. My head banged against the side. I hissed in pain.
The door slid open. Immediately, I hurried to get in front of Kayla. My body over hers. Someone shined a light in my face.
"Freaky eyes." The man said. I didn't recognize this one. I don't think he was involved in the hit.
"Grab them." Liam instructed. Ryan by his side remained quiet. I guess we know who's in charge.
"How does it feel being second to your older brother, Ryan? You're the useless, not needed sibling. Must suck." I laughed, manically.
