Kayla's POV——

I bit my fingers nervously. It has been almost 2 hours since Cora bolted. I swear, I spend half my time worrying about her.

And if I am not worrying, I am just simply thinking of her. I wanted to deny it at first. The way I felt about her. Because she was my best friend and our families treat each other like family.

But from the moment she kissed me, I couldn't ignore it. It's like, she's the sun and I revolve around her. As pathetic as that sounds.

When she was gone, I felt like the world had stopped spinning. But it didn't. It went on. Without her with me. I felt like I had died.

I was pacing in the living room. Connor sat with his head in his hands with Bree as did Luca and Dylan. We hadn't told Aunt Maria or Uncle Mike. We didn't want to get Cora in trouble for running.

Bree felt responsible. She kept saying she was sorry, how it was her fault. She couldn't be more wrong. It was mine.

The door opened and we all tensed. The boy from the day we woke up drunk walked in. I now knew him as Zaine. He hung out with Dylan a lot.

After him in walked my best friend. Without missing a bear I lunged at her. I infiltrated her with a hug, like my life depended on it.

I let out a small cry. "Don't ever do that again, do you hear me?" I half shouted as I rubbed her head.

I pried myself off knowing her brothers needed to be able to hug her. After that fun little reunion, we had to get to business.

"What the hell happened?" Bree asked bluntly. Cora glanced up at his with glazed eyes.

I had her feet in my lap as she sat between me and Connor.

"I got overwhelmed." She lied. I winced at the lie.

"You're lying. You started acting weird the moment you saw that missing person's picture." I accused not so nicely.

"Because he's not missing!" She screamed frustrated. She looked surprised by her outbreak but knew she couldn't stop.

"He's dead. He was a husband. And he is dead." She whimpered.

"How do you know that?" Dylan asked stroking her hair.

She let out a choked sob. "Because I killed him." She answered. She was looking at Connor. And it clicked in his mind.

"Oh, Cora." He tried to console her.

"I told you he was evil. I thought he was a monster, but it was me. I am the monster. I killed an innocent man who thought he was protecting people." She cried.

I was beyond confused and everyone else seemed as confused, but not Connor. Her brothers seemed to be a little less confused but confused nonetheless.

"Cora, you couldn't have possibly known." Connor tried.

"It doesn't matter. I am a murder. And I knew, I knew, I would be one day, but I wanted it to be a guilty person not an innocent." She retorted.

I grabbed ahold to her and held her in my arms as she cried. I felt a tear leak from my own eye.

I shushed her as her cries died down. "I am going to lie down." She whispered loud enough for everyone to hear.

I helped her up and went to her room with her. She changed into some shorts before throwing some my way and I changed as well.

We lied down on her bed and I stroked her hair, playing with the ends of it.

Cora's POV———-

I sighed as Kayla played with my hair. I acted weak. I know that, but I needed a moment of weakness.

I refuse to tell them about the other missing twins. It's my responsibility to find them and I will. I will get them back. Every single one.

"So, the guy, Chris Rodriguez, he was the guy you killed?" Kayla asked.

I nodded against her chest. "He was a husband. I mean, I didn't know at the time, but I still feel guilty." I answered.

I can't wait anymore. I need to talk to one of the left behind twin.

I have to tell Kayla. She will never let me leave otherwise. "Kay, there is something else." I confided.

"Hmm?" She pressed me on.

"There were others. Not just me being experimented on. More twins. One twin leaving the other behind just like me and Connor." I explained.

She rose, making my head fall off her chest. "Are you serious?" She asked. I nodded.

"I need to find them. Help me, please." I begged her. She nodded.

For the next hour we did a deep dive. "Here! This one. Her name is... Vicki Rhodes. Her brother, Victor, was taken two days before you were taken." Kayla explained.

"Well, let's go so Vick, shall we?" I extended my hand. She put her hand in.

"We shall." She agreed and we walked out my bedroom door.

Then turned around quickly. "We look like hobos. Can't see people while we look like hobos." I decided turning on my heel.

We changed into a pair of jeans and I put on a white sweater. Kayla chose a black sweater.

Then we actually left. I put directions into her car and we made it to Vicki's house.

I sighed as I opened my car door. Kayla grabbed my hand. "It'll be okay." She reassured me.

I knocked on the door. A girl our age opened the door. They took all twins the same age.

"Can I help you?" She asked. Her voice half void of emotions.

"Vicki Rhodes?" Kayla questioned her.

"That's me. Who's asking?" She questioned right back.

"Cora Banks. I'm here about your brother. Victor Rhodes." I piped in.

"Have they found him?" She asked suddenly a small bit of light coming to her eyes.

"No, but I know what's happening to him." I told her.

Her eyes went into a confused state. "What? What happened? Is he okay? Where is he?" She asked frantically tears already swarming in here eyes.

"His being held somewhere. People are experimenting on him." I told her.

"How- how do you know that?" She stuttered.

"Because I was kidnapped like him as well. By the same people."
