Mitra
It was late in the night when we left home. And to none of our surprise, it wasn't hard leaving the castle. Father half drank himself to sleep while his wife tried, and failed, at keeping him conscious. Not that she had any right to ask us where we were going anyway, but still.
The moon was bright as it lit up the path in front of us. I hadn't told Makari and Axel where exactly I was taking them, but I had a plan, and that's all they needed to know.
The path to the castle where Leila stayed was a long one, but I knew some ways in which it wouldn't be such a long journey. I hoped Leila was okay, and safe. God knows what they were doing to Jaxon, Ariel and Gabe. Their laws were so much stricter than ours, and the thought of anything bad happening to them made my skin crawl.
I felt an ache in my lower back as I let out a sigh, leaning my weight on the nearest tree trunk.
"You okay?" Makari asked, a look of worry on his face. "Yeah, I'm fine." I breathed, "Just have a bad back."I ignored the looks on their faces as I took another deep breath before standing up straight again.
"You? A bad back?" Axel scoffed, "Since when?"
"Since now." I answered, glaring at him. If there were ever to be a time to tell my brothers about this...well, baby, it wouldn't be now.
I began walking again as they followed. The same thoughts that have been flooding my mind resurfaced once more. Will I ever see Gabe again? What were they going to do to them? Am I really keeping this kid? What if they don't make i-
"What the hell Mitra?" I heard Makari exclaim. I jumped before turning to face him. "What?" I asked, clear attitude in my tone.
"Did you think I wouldn't recognize where we were at some point?" He asked me, stopping in his tracks. I couldn't fight the smile creeping on my face before I bursted out a laugh. "You trying to act tough is quite funny." I said, before turning to Axel. "It's the witch." I said flatly, "Who told Makari about Leila the first time. She's found her before, she can do it again."
Axel rolled his eyes before turning to Makari. "I told you we shouldn't be following Mitra."
"Oh! I'm sorry, do either of you idiots have any better ideas?" I snapped, crossing my arms in front me, "Because if you asked me, moping around in a bedroom wasn't going to get you anywhere."
Before Makari could reply, the snap of a twig interrupted our conversation, leaving the 3 of us speechless.
I turned around to face the sound, though I could see nothing but forest. And, well, complete and utter darkness.
Axel made his way in front of me, his arm reaching across my body as he gently pushed me behind him. I rolled my eyes as he did so, but part of me grew more grateful as another sound of leaves rustling arose from the woods.
Growing up as the king's daughter, I was trained to fight, along with Makari and Axel. But I never thought I'd actually have to fight.
"You're seeking your mate once more, I presume?" An old, croaky voice spoke.
I let out a sigh of relief as I took a step in front of Axel, "Yes but, not just her." I replied, though I couldn't see the witch in front of me. Just darkness.
After a moment or so, she stepped into the moonlight, her face as pale as the light that shown upon it. Part of me expected an old, wrinkly woman, but she was almost the complete opposite.
She was tall, and slender. Though her hair was as long as the legs that held her up. Her eyes were clouded, which I assumed meant she was blind.
Ironic, I guess.
"A boy you have there, miss." She said once.
I felt my stomach drop as the words left her mouth, my heart beginning to race. I almost wanted to laugh.
"What?" Axel said, stepping up next to me. "Who's a boy?"
"No one," I replied quickly, "I don't think she's talking abou-"
"Come along." She interrupted, returning back into the darkness she left from.
I didn't even have anything to say. "Well, c'mon." I said, hoping Makari and Axel didn't think twice about the shit she just blurted out.
-
My heart was beating, hard. I tried to keep my head down as I kept fighting a smile tugging at my mouth. My mind was racing with a million thoughts at once.
A boy? I thought to myself. I knew I was pregnant, obviously, but knowing the gender made it so real. And suddenly I began to question if this was really what I wanted.
We continued to walk in silence as we followed the with to her, house? I guess. Where does a witch even live?
I looked up as we approached a small house. But it wasn't really a house, as it was a boulder. This woman made a room inside of a rock.
"Okay..." I murmured, as she entered.
I followed behind Makari as we entered the house. To my surprise, it was huge. It looked extremely small on the outside, though.
But I guess witches can do that.
Her swift movements made her look as though she were floating, as she turned to face us once more.
"Makari," She said, as she sat down, "You have a bad habit of losing the woman you're meant to be with." I think she was trying to make a joke, though her tone stayed the same.
Makari shifted on his feet as he spoke, "Yeah, it's complicated, really." He replied, crossing his arms as he spoke.
Axel scoffed from behind us, as he continued to examine the room we were in.
"So, you can help us?" I asked her, as I walked forward to stand closer to her.
"There are many blockages, if I'm right to assume she's at her birthplace." The woman spoke, "Incubi are very good at hiding things they do not want outsiders to see."
I fidgeted with my shirt as she spoke. She didn't sound as confident as I was hoping she would be.
"I can't see where she is," She stated, and I felt a rise of nervousness within me as she spoke, "But I can tell you how to get there."
