Leila

I was awoken by the sound of voices in the living room downstairs. My eyes fluttered open as I took in my surroundings. I had almost forgotten I was at Jaxon and Ariel's house, as I sat up slowly. The room was even prettier in the morning sunlight.

I sat there as I took time to think of all the information Ariel had shared with me the night before. It felt nice to take a break from all the craziness and talk about my mom. The more I thought about her, though, the more I wanted to be with her, which I knew was impossible.

A frown crept onto my face as I realized Makari wasn't in my dream last night. Although it wasn't actually him, it still excited me to be able to see him. I sighed, as I played with the comforter that laid over my body, until I heard her voice.

My head perked up as I began to focus on who was talking downstairs. After a few sentences, I recognized it was Mitra speaking. Well, she wasn't really speaking, she was more talking very fast and very angrily.

I sprung up from my bed, speed walking to the door and making my way to the top of the stairs. I began walking down the stairs as quietly as possible. I couldn't deny it, I wanted to eavesdrop at what they were talking about. I wasn't sure if I was going to ever see Mitra again, at least by myself.

I made my way to the bottom of the stairs, and turned my back against the wall. I leaned my ear to the opening of the living room, listening intently.

It was Mitra talking, her tone was intense.

"...I don't know how he knew that, or how he knew half of the things he does about Leila. He just asked to come here to be with her, someone he could trust." she said.

My heart was pounding. Makari sent Mitra just to be with me...?

"But regardless of the reason I'm in Leila's life, I'm still her best friend, and I will always be her best friend. You sending me back to Proserpina will never change that, no matter how hard you try." she finished, breathing heavily. I assumed she had been talking for a while.

I needed to step in, Mitra is my best friend, and I knew she needed to feel like at least one person was on her side.

"She's right," I said, turning the corner and entering the living room. I was greeted by Jaxon, Ariel, and Gabe standing up next to them. I looked them straight into their eyes as I spoke, "Nothing you do will stop me from wanting Mitra in my life," I said, firmly.

I watched as Mitra let out a small sigh of relief, a small smile creeping on her face. I wanted to run over, to hug her and never let go, but I needed to keep calm. There were obviously a lot of things I still didn't know, despite how much I trusted Mitra, I couldn't fight the small amount of doubt I had in the back of my mind.

"What have you all been talking about?" I asked, walking and standing next to the couch Mitra was sitting at. Jaxon and Ariel were both looking up at me, their glance going back and forth between Mitra and I. I looked up at Gabriel, who was standing right across from me. His facial expression was less harsh than the others, he almost looked sad.

"Well?" I asked again, a hint of attitude in my tone. Jaxon sighed and looked back up at me. "We were explaining to Mitra what we've learned about her, and she's been telling us why Makari sent her to Earth to be with you." I nodded slightly, a wave of relief hitting me knowing that Mitra was able to explain herself. "So...are you going to tell me what she said?" I asked, looking between Ariel and Jaxon.
