Jaxon, Ariel and Gabe told me everything they knew about incubi and succubi, and more importantly, my parents. Although I was human, it was important to me that I knew who I could've been. "So", Jaxon said, who was now sitting on the floor, "Repeat back to me what you've learned." I took a deep breath and sat up straighter, ignoring Gabe's subtle chuckles. "Okay, I've learned that my parents are sex demons. Not just sex demons, but the King and Queen of the Incubi." I said, watching Jaxon and Ariel nod at what I was saying. "And...I learned that I can't meet them because my identity will be exposed, and I could die..." I said, trailing off. But I brushed off the feeling, understanding that this was for the best. "I learned that you guys are all some type of protection for me, and now that I know what I've come from I could still pose as a risk for my own safety." "Right," said Jaxon, as if to emphasize on the point.

"So..now I would like to know about the guy at the club last night." I said, hopeful for a positive reaction.

Boy was I wrong.

I watched Jaxon's eyes become dark, and it almost looked like he stopped breathing. I heard Ariel inhale sharply and place her hand on Jaxon's shoulder. "..What? What's wrong?" I asked, confused at their reaction. "Why do you want to know about him?" Ariel asked me softly, the familiar look of worry reappearing on her face. "I...I just felt something I've never felt before...when we encountered each other." I said, careful with my words. "Describe the feeling," Jaxon demanded, but he wasn't speaking to me. I watched as Gabe perked up, and closed his eyes. I watched as his breathing slowed, almost as if he was meditating.

Then, his eyes snapped open. "Holy shit" he said, his eyes wide.

"What is it?" Jaxon growled, I then realized the anger that was plastered on his face. "She's his mate," Gabe said, quietly, almost too quiet to hear. Suddenly Jaxon was standing, and he roared with anger. "That's absolutely impossible, Gabriel. You know that. What are you talking about?" he demanded an answer.

Once again, I was left in the dark. Answer less. Completely lost as to what was going on in front of me.

I felt the warm feeling in my chest again. I placed my hand on my chest, my eyes not leaving Gabe's. He was focusing hard on me, and I felt like I was in a trance.

"When they met, their bond mended. Which would explain the warm feeling she felt in her chest, it was her soul connecting with his. And her mark appeared. It's on her left hip." Gabe said, a look of sadness creeping onto his face.

I snapped out of it, and I was brought back to reality. "Okay, listen. You guys can't do this again. Explain, now." I demanded, without realizing I was standing.

Jaxon looked at me, then Ariel, who gave him a small nod. Jaxon looked back at me, and motioned me to sit back down. I obeyed, and sat back on the couch. "The boy, er- man you met last night, is the son one of the most powerful incubi, in a different region that your Father's. His father is your Father's greatest enemy, and they have hated each other for millions of years..." Jaxon said, although it wasn't like he was talking to me anymore, more like he was telling a story. "His son is quite powerful, and very smart. We've had to monitor him in the past, and he never seemed to care much about the kingdom, or the conflict between your and his father, but he is still a threat nonetheless. He can't be trusted, as he is skilled in his manipulation and being able to trick people..." Jaxon said, his eyes were looking far away.

"So, what does Gabe mean I'm his mate?" I asked, and Ariel looked back up at me. "You're his soulmate...it's not determined in any way in particular, it is just decided when two incubus and succubus are born." she said, "But the reason it is impossible, is because you were born human...there isn't any way he would know that you are his soulmate, nor who you are..." she said, with a confused look on her face.

"That's not 100% true," Gabe said, almost as if he were talking to himself. He looked up at Ariel, who was now looking back at him. "If Makari somehow knew that his soulmate were to be born human, there's a chance he came to Earth looking for her..." he trailed off, his eyebrows coming together as he went deep into thought. "And since he is an Incubus, it would be a lot easier for him to find her rather than vice versa. The same way we know the effects of one finding their mate, it's not hard for him seek out what the sensation is like. I wouldn't be surprised if he's been searching for her for hundreds of years." Gabe said, returning his gaze back to Ariel.

"But, it just can't be..." Ariel said, now looking into her lap. I looked back at Gabe and Jaxon, who were both clearly distraught. "So, the burning feeling in my chest?" I began to ask, my hand naturally reaching back to the same spot I felt the warm feeling. Gabe looked at my hand, then met my gaze. "Yes, that's what it feels like once you've met your mate. Your bond mends with them, and your souls are one." he said. "And the mark?" I asked, motioning to my hip. "It's almost like a branding," he sighed, "I can't think of another way to put it. It just signifies that you belong to someone. Some, if not most, incubi don't have it, because the true finding of your soulmate is not as easy as 123..." he trailed off.

"But it wouldn't be hard for Makari," Jaxon stated, finally coming back to reality. "Like I said, he's manipulative, and the son of a King. It wouldn't be hard for him to pull strings, or manipulate witches, to find a way to get to Leila."

So his name was Makari. Every time they said his name, my heart skipped a beat. This was so cliché.

"Well, I'm sure this is a given, but I'm assuming you guys are going to everything in your power to keep me from him, aren't you?" I asked. I noticed a slight harsh tone to my question, and I tried to force the feeling of anger down. "Without a doubt," Jaxon stated firmly.

My stomach lurched. I didn't know Makari, or anything about him, but I wanted him. He was my soulmate, after all. I want to feel that same way I did the first time we locked eyes on each other everyday, if I could.

I felt eyes on me, and I quickly snapped out of my daydream. I looked up to find Gabe's stern glare in my direction. I pleaded with my eyes that he wouldn't say what I just thought, and he looked away from me in disgust.

"I agree." Gabe said suddenly, looking at Jaxon. I rolled my eyes, knowing this was going to be a common thing now that I knew he could read minds. "I agree with what you were thinking.." Gabe clarified, "It would be smart to be with Leila at all times to ensure Makari doesn't get anywhere near her. He knows what we are, and knows he wouldn't be able to get through to her easily." He said the last part while looking me straight in the eyes, a direct blow intended to sting.

It did.

Jaxon sighed, rubbing his eyes and massaging his face. "I don't know, it was just a thought. I'm not sure what Makari's intentions are. It would be smart to play it safe, but I think I need to seek advice from the King at what steps to take from here." he said, look directly at Ariel.

"I don't mean to sound like a bitch..." I started, "But I don't want you guys around me at all times. I will admit, Makari sounds intriguing to me and something I want to delve in, but if risks my safety, it will not be something I want to explore." I stated, firmly. I know that sentence was a lie, but somehow Gabe wasn't picking up on it, or at least he was pretending not to. I titled my head slightly, but ignored it.

"I understand..." Jaxon said, "And if I'm being honest, if there is ever a time in your life..." he stopped, as Ariel shook her head slightly, her eyes pleading. Jaxon looked away from her and back to me. "If there is ever a time in your life that you do not want us to protect you anymore, we will not. You are our authority, in the grand scheme of things, and perfectly capable of making your own decisions. But you're smart, and I trust that you will keep us around. Until then, I intend on keeping Makari away from you." he said, without missing a beat.
