Makari and I had been on the road for a while. I didn't know where he was bringing me, but we had passed his house a long time ago. The sky was purple as the sun had just finished setting, and there were fields everywhere I looked. I realized how far we must've been from the city.
I looked at him every now and then, his serious facial expression never leaving his face as he kept his eyes on the road. He was back to his normal appearance, thankfully, because I was actually starting to miss it.
"So," I said gently, "Where are we going exactly?" I asked him. I watched as he let out a sigh, his grip on the wheel and his tense shoulders loosening. "After dinner I was planning to ask you to go away with me for a weekend," he said, "I imagined it going a lot more romantic in my head, but now you can't say no, so I guess it works out." He said, a smile creeping onto his lips. I let out a small laugh, and turned to face him. "Where were you thinking of taking me?" I asked him.
With his right hand, he reached over to me, and I held his hand in my lap. I ran my finger along the lines in his palm, before looking back up at him. "It's just this cabin thing," he shrugged, "It's nature-y and shit, I don't know. I've had it before a while but I never actually used it. A friend of mine uses it every now and then, so I trust that it's still in good condition. I hope, at least," he smiled, "But anyway, I thought you'd like it if we went together." He said, looking at me before he brought his gaze back to the road in front of him. I nodded, bringing my attention back to his hand in my lap.
I'd hardly ever left the city, if at all, but I've always loved the outdoors. My stomach filled with butterflies at the thought of a weekend with Makari.
"You saw who it was, didn't you?" He asked me, his voice was stern again, "At the restaurant?" I snapped out of my daydream and looked back up at him. "Yeah.." I replied, "I did." Makari nodded, "Why didn't you go to them?" he asked me, his voice softening as he asked. I sighed, shaking my head. "I don't know. I've been with them for years, and it's not that I want to defile them or go against them, I just know you aren't going to bring me any harm. I'm not in control of the fact that you're my soulmate, and I don't want to be. I can't control everything I feel when I'm with you, or the sense of longing I have when I'm not. So, I will do everything I can to stay with you." I said, "And they just have to be okay with that."
He intertwined his fingers with mine before quickly squeezing my hand. "I hoped you'd say something like that," he said, his voice soft. "I understand their fear of other incubi or succubi finding you, as I have the same fears. But they don't do anything I can't do to protect you. As long as you want to be with me, I will keep you by my side." he said, his thumb caressing the top of my hand, "Until the day you tell me you don't want me anymore."
I snapped my head to look up at him, "I wouldn't ever stop wanting you." I said, my voice stern. I watched as he chuckled, shaking his head. "I believe you. It's just the truth, though, I would never keep you with me against your own will." He said. "I know that.." I replied, as I looked at the scenery in front of me.

9:38pm
Makari lead me inside of the cabin, and I couldn't hold in the gasp that escaped my lips. It was breathtaking. A huge contrast to his house, there was wood everywhere I laid my eyes on, the smell of pine filling up each room.
"How do you have money for all of this?" I asked him, curiously. He had put our bags away, and was now standing in the kitchen. We saw that there were still some dishes in the sink, and I laughed as I listened to his whining. Apparently he hates the dishes, reminding me of the reason as to why he had a maid in his house.
"My parents kinda help me out," he said, "I've been on Earth for a while actually. They don't really know why," he said, smirking up at me, "but they don't usually ask anyway." He said. "Mmm.." I hummed, and watched as he continued to, angrily, clean the dishes. I loved watching anything he did, no matter how small. The way his body moved, his facial expressions, the way he carried himself, I could watch him forever.
"I think we're gonna have to get a bib for you." He joked, looking up at me. I rolled my eyes, "I don't drool, I'm just admiring." I whined, as I walked over and stood next to him, hoisting myself up onto the counter. I looked down at his hands before looking up at him, "So...I was wondering," I said. "Mhmm?" he said, focusing on the last few dishes. "What are you parents like?" I asked, my voice quiet. Makari finished the last plate, before drying his hands with a towel.
"My parents..." he said, walking back to lean against the island across from me. He was looking above me, a thoughtful look on his face. "My parents are...well they're great, I mean, they've done a lot for me," he said, lowering his gaze to the floor. "But my dad was really harsh growing up. He expected a lot from me, a lot of things that I wouldn't give him, or didn't want to give him." I nodded, tilting my head as I listened.
"Like the kingdom, I have no care for it at all. I don't want to be "King" or to rule over anyone, I just want to be me. If it were up to me, I would've asked to be born human too." He let out a small laugh, before shaking his head. "But, I don't mind it I guess, being an Incubus and everything. But because of my lack of interest, my dad eventually gave up on me, and we never really got close." He said, as a frown crept onto his face. "He and Mitra are really close, as she's kinda in love with the whole royal family thing. She actually threw quite a big fit when I asked her to come here to be with you," he chuckled, "But she got over it once she met you," he said, looking up as his eyes locked with mine.
"I don't really blame her," he said, his gaze not leaving my eyes. I scoffed, as I felt the heat in my cheeks rising. "I'm serious!" he said, walking up to me, "Mitra really loves you, Leila." Makari's voice was soft, as he stood in between my legs. "And I do too." he said, resting his hand on the side of my cheek.
My heart skipped a beat, he loves me? I looked up at him, his bright eyes on mine. I wanted to say it back as I have felt a lot of things for Makari, constantly wanting to be with him. But, I couldn't say I was in love with him, not yet, anyway. It had only been a week for me. It was different for him, spending such a huge part of his life focused on me, despite my ignorance to the fact that he even existed. So I understood why it was easier for him to say it than it was for me.
I watched as his brows furrowed together, "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to-" he started, before I waved it off. "Don't worry about it," I chuckled, placing my hand over his, "Just give me time." I said, and I meant it. It wouldn't be long before I could say I loved him anyway.
He nodded once, before lifting my chin to meet his lips with mine. He kissed me softly, as I pressed my lips against his.
