Bad memories
Saki kept rubbing her hand nervously. She didn't want to answer Wendy's question. What if Wendy could discover what Saki does for a living? Maybe then that girl wouldn't look at her with the same respect she did now. However, the question was still there, and it wouldn't be nice if Saki tried to hide the answer from the girl who saved her.
- That night, I was on the way to get my money... It was in a locker. And then... I met a group of teenagers. And ... they beat me ... kicked me, and took all of my money. And ... they even humiliated me... Th-they put... a water bottle into my womb. - Saki whimpered. Tears ran down her cheeks again. The memories of that night were still fresh. They were as sharp as a thousand razor blades, cutting into her mind, leaving painful wounds that could not be healed.
Wendy clenched her fists when she heard Saki's explanation of the wounds on her body. Her eyes sparkled with anger at the thought of what had happened to Saki. She already knew that this world was not a fun and bright place. It was a cruel place that contains full of terrible people and miserable pains. But what happened to Saki still made her blood boil because of that injustice.
- So they... really did that to you? - Wendy tried to stay calm and asked Saki. She tried to sigh continuously to control her mood, prevent it from exploding.
Saki just nodded silently and tried to wipe away the tears that were rolling down her cheeks.
- UGH! Grrr! Give me their name, Saki! Give me their name and location, Saki! And I'll make sure those people will never see the sunrise again. - Wendy's cheeks reddened with anger. Her eyes were quickly dyed with the red of rage and bloodlust. The earlier efforts to calm down seemed to have gone in vain.
- I don't ... I don't know who they are. Everything happened so quick, and their faces were really blurred. - Saki replied while still sobbing.
The unexpected answer left Wendy in shock. Even if she was one of the best assassins in Japan, she wouldn't be able to find those scumbags without basic information. And that also means they will escape, never being punished for what they did to this little girl.
But maybe that's not what Saki needs most right now. She doesn't need a punisher who is ready to rush out into the night and stain the streets with the blood of those who have hurt her. She needs to rest, and she needs someone to take care of her on the cold days of the incoming winter.
Although Wendy was inherently better at killing than taking care of someone, she felt it was her responsibility to help this girl until she fully recovered.
- It's okay Saki. You're safe now. It's all gone. It's all over. - Wendy raised her hand and patted Saki's head, trying to comfort her.
Saki looked up in surprise. The strange girl was patting her head. She remembered that feeling, being patted and cared for by someone. It was a sweet, but also an uncomfortable feeling. Because she always had to do dirty things in exchange for a pat on the head. But this time, it was different.
Wendy didn't force Saki to do any dirty things like everyone else. She listened to her, and she puts Saki at ease. That was such a pleasant feeling after so many painful and tiring days. She smiled contentedly. Saki wished that she could stop time to prolong this moment forever, to not feel lonely anymore.
---------
Wendy comforted and gently patted Saki's head until she stopped crying and calmed down. Then, she leaned back in her lounge chair and took a few sips of coffee. Trying to keep herself awake with a large amount of caffeine. It's windy outside and it makes Wendy feel very sleepy. She had slept very little in the past few days and perhaps coffee was not going to keep her awake much longer.
