A cold night

A cold wind suddenly blew into the room, startling Saki. She turned to look at the black sky, a feeling of unease returned to her mind. The road was already lighted up by street lights, although it was colourful, it was so lonely. The weather has turned to winter, it was probably about 20 degrees outside.

Saki always hated nights like this, it made her feel so cold. Even when she was hugged by a client, Saki did not feel any warmer. Perhaps, her body did not feel the cold but her lonely heart.

But tonight, Saki didn't feel cold, not at all.

She turned to look at her foreign friend, Wendy Watson.

Wendy was sitting on a chair with her hands in her pockets. She looked at the ground as if she was thinking about something. Saki begins to feel curious about her new friend. Aside from her name and nationality, she knew almost nothing about Wendy. Perhaps a few personal questions would make Wendy look less like a stranger to Saki.

--------

- Hmm... Wendy. Can I ask how old are you? - Saki timidly asked.

Wendy raised her head and replied, seems to be awakened from a brief nap.

- Me? Oh, I'm twenty-two.

Saki was startled to hear that answer.

- Eh, what? Twenty-two? You look so young! - Saki exclaimed. Indeed, at the first glance, Wendy looked like a schoolgirl. Her short blonde hair and fair skin make her look much younger than Saki. While her short height and slim body proved that Wendy was only in her twenties.

However, in contrast to that youthful look, the depth of her eyes showed a maturity rarely seen in girls of this age. Not many people know that those deep blue eyes have witnessed so many nightmares that even adults couldn't imagine.

- Are you a student, or do you already have a job? - Saki continued to ask, even though she knew that Wendy didn't look like a student at all.

- Well, I work as... hmm... A freelance sculptor. - Wendy replied. Although she doesn't want to lie to her friends, the less Saki knows about her real job, the better.

- A sculptor? Like you sculpt the human figure in Anime? - Saki felt quite curious. She thought that Wendy would work in a company. When she first met Wendy, her clothes were formal like an employee.

- Yeah, that's right, human figure. I usually sculpt human figures. Sometimes female, but mostly male. - Wendy responded and tried not to make eye contact with Saki. She was afraid that Saki would see it, the bloodlust of an animal lurking inside her.

The temperature drops much lower at night, Saki rubs her hands together to relieve the cold. She doesn't seem to care much about Wendy's attitude and just admires her. Wendy was so young but already has a job, even working abroad. Maybe she must be very talented and determined.

- Wow, that's so cool, Wendy. Your family must be proud of you. - Saki praised Wendy with a bit of jealousy. If she had a stable job like Wendy, maybe her parents and friends would see her differently, at least not in the way she was experienced.

Wendy showed a slightly sad smile upon hearing Saki's compliments. It seemed that she didn't enjoy the compliment very much. Probably because the person Saki praised was just a fake identity that she created.

- Actually, my mom didn't want me to do that job. But somehow, I accidentally had a talent for it. After that... my career just keeps moving forward. - Wendy said. Her eyes were suddenly filled with sadness.
