Chapter 17 (Missing Jamie)

The day of the ball was tomorrow and I was excited I haven't been to one of these things but the stuff Jane told me it was out of this world. People dressed in the most beautiful gowns, men in their finest tuxedos and I was busy packing up my laptop

"I'll pick you up at 6 tomorrow" Hayden said seeing me standing up
"I will see you at 6" I smiled looking up at him but inside my stomach made weird flips
"Can't wait" he said softly I don't think I was supposed to hear that but he too sounded so excited

I picked up my phone and dialed Amanda just as she answered her voice came through
"Hey sorry I am on my way to you running a bit late" she said and I laughed
"No worries I am also just packing up see you at my place"
"See you" and we hung up Amanda said she will be staying the night at my place so we could brainstorm on what I will be wearing and catch up on the latest news of our lives, she wanted to make me the belle of the ball as she would put it but I was just happy Hayden asked me to go with him.

When I got there she was already making herself at home,
"Honey I'm home" I yelled
"I'm right here Alex, I wanted to make pasta but you have nothing in your cupboards so I ordered Chinese" she said
"Yeah most of the things I forgot to do and not a problem it's a shame Jamie couldn't be here" I said to her as she waved it off
"I told him we will video call him tonight" Amanda said
"Aw I really miss him I bet you he met some handsome man and totally forgot about us" I told her
"Oh no I don't think so he is too busy with work anyway" she replied
"You want to bet on that" I held out my hand
"$10 say he hasn't met anyone" She shook my hand
"Yeah by the way you have been so busy with Mr hunk that you forgot we existed" she playfully said while we sat on the couch

"Hey I was busy with work and besides I like the late nights I have with him while doing work" I said honestly
"Yeah right 'Work'!" she quoted
"So what do you think will happen tomorrow night?" She asked and I thought about it
"I don't know it will be a ball, with champagne laughing and a charity" I said

"No I mean with Hayden" she said again and I looked at her
"Amanda nothing will happen it is his charity ball so I think mostly he will be busy entertaining I don't think he will even notice that I am there" I replied not really happy now that I think of it
"Alex don't sell yourself so short I seen the way he looks at you" she said and I laughed
"Oh yeah just by the way he looks at me right! The last time I remember when he kissed me he said it was a mistake" I recalled the time at the restaurant
"Maybe his feelings changed or he just lied" she said and I nodded my head
"Nah Hayden has always been Hayden and look at us now I work in his building with him but he still hasn't made a move?" I pointed out
The doorbell rang signaling our dinner has arrived, I opened the door and the delivery guy smiled,
"Amanda" he asked and I smiled I didn't correct him just gave him the money and tip and told him thanks taking our Chinese and going back to the living room

"But there was that time when you guys worked late and he almost kissed you when you were like on top of him" Amanda interrupted and I forgot about that, I kept her up to date with everything that was happening because you know Amanda she must know what is happening in the world of Alex
"Oh when I almost scared him to death because he was sleeping and I tripped accidentally on top of him" I defended
"Whatever you say Alex" Amanda held her hands up
"OH by the way I almost forgot to tell you guess who was here yesterday?" I said half too excited
"I don't know but you're going to tell me anyway" Amanda took a huge un lady like bite of her food
"Sheesh you really need to take smaller bites" I looked at her
"Go-on" she replied with a mouth full of food and I shook my head
"Gross anyway Sid" I said scrunching up my face while taking a bite of my noodles
"You don't say" she swallowed her food so she could speak clearly
"What did he want?" she continued

"Just the fact that he made a mistake and he wants me to give him another chance, because he was so sorry and the thing with Grace was a mistake blah, blah" I said to her taking another mouth full of food
"Glad he realized he was the one in the wrong and not you I just hope you didn't give him another chance" Amanda asked me and I took a moment to answer
"No you didn't" she half almost threw the food back on the table and I laughed
"Relax I didn't wouldn't do that anyway, been there got hurt" I replied to her and she laughed
