Chapter 21 (Something's Up)

"Here are the newest stat reports and the documents on the development which will start in 2 months' time" I said to Damon while standing in his office
"Good job Alex this is the first time I didn't even have to ask you to bring something to the office" he said with a smirk and it was the first time ever that he called me Alex
"If that is all I still have a lot of work before the final report can be done" I replied not in the mood for his remarks
"Alex take a seat" Damon said and I blew out a breath
"Don't look so miserable you still have plenty of time for all your work" he said and I gave him a serious look
"You know why I'm so hard on you?" he said out of the blue and I just stared at him not really interested but a little concerned why he was giving me a lecture today

"Because I want to see you succeed Alexandria, I want to see you make something of your life maybe there will be a promotion once you get finished with all of this" he told me and I snorted
"Yeah right" I said to him standing up again
"No really there is a position that will open for the Operations Manager and you know what that means?" he told me I always wanted to be the Operations Manager that meant that everyone had to listen to me and I could take on any project I liked
"So if you play your cards right the position might just be yours" he said and I smiled
"We'll just see Damon" I replied walking out of his office, one thing I knew Shane also wanted that position because it meant less work for him I may have been working with Damon for a while now but I knew all his tricks and Shane wasn't any better, because what Shane wanted he got even if it meant kissing Damon's ass

I made my way back to Blacc Enterprises and flopped down on my chair, if I did get the promotion I might just get everything I always wanted, but where would that leave me with Hayden he always worked too much and we wouldn't be able to see each other that much. Alex you didn't get the promotion yet so stop overthinking it I told myself. Well then I better get to it then because the work isn't going to do itself

Amanda's face appeared just as I was about to finish with my work,

"Hey" she said and I beamed
"What are you doing here?" I asked her standing up
"I wanted to know if I could take you out to lunch?" she asked me and I looked at the time
"Sure I would love that" I said to her taking my bag
"I just want to tell Hayden I'm going out" I said to her as she walked behind me, I knocked on his door and popped my head inside
"Hey I'm just out to lunch with Amanda, can I bring you anything?" I asked when he looked up while typing on his laptop
"No I'm fine thank you. Enjoy" he said smiling going back to his work

I left him and went with Amanda to a nearby café on the corner,
"Spill" I said when we took our seats
"Why would you think I need to spill anything?" she asked
"Because you never take me out to lunch only dinner and you never came into my offices, doesn't matter where I work. Is everything okay?" I asked her as she looked more worried
"Well you see I might have done something really stupid" she said and the waiter placed our drinks in front of us
"What did you do?" I asked her and she took a sip of her coffee
"Hi Alex honey" I heard from behind me and whipped my head to the voice
"Jamie Bear!" I yelled and threw myself in his arms
"I missed you" I said smiling like a cat
"Missed you to I hear I have a lot to catch up on" Jamie said and I looked at Amanda
"Never do that to me again you almost gave me a heart attack" I pointed at her and she held up her hands in surrender

"He surprised me and he couldn't wait to see you" she said as we all sat at the table
"So I heard you and Mr Hayden hunk are finally hitting it off?" Jamie said and I blushed
"Well sort of never mind me what about you and that hunk of yours?" I asked him
"You guys will meet him this weekend and please all I ask of you is don't embarrass me" Jamie asked because he knew how Amanda and I can get
"We will never" Amanda said and I laughed
"Please guys I really like this one and I don't want to mess it up" he said it in a warning tone and we pinkie promised because we never saw Jamie like this
"So where will we meet him?" I asked as Amanda and Jamie looked at each other
"It's a surprise" Amanda said all to quickly
"Oh no I saw the look you gave each other what is going on?" I asked and they smiled like they were up to something
"What are you guys up to?" I asked and they still didn't say anything
"You will just have to wait and see" Jamie replied and we ate our lunch while chatting then after a while we said our goodbyes. I still didn't have a great feeling about what was going on but never the less I decided to leave it

But when I walked out something caught my eye, Hayden was walking with a woman she was beautiful from what I saw with her strawberry blonde hair and long legs she was climbing in the car with Hayden and they drove off.

I was hurt at that, I didn't know what to think maybe he found someone better and saw me as someone just for the side line? Maybe he was fed up with me? Or maybe it was nothing? I was so confused why the hell when I went to lunch or why in the public eye? I mean he did bring me flowers and he did show me he was interested. I walked into my office and started at my screen, so deep in thought about all scenarios that I didn't even hear my name being called

"Alex"

Maybe that is why he didn't want lunch because he was having lunch with her? Are they dating? Has he been dating her this whole time? What was I to Hayden?

"Alex hello" I didn't even realize that it was Hayden who was calling my name until I snapped out of it and looked at him
"That must have been really deep thoughts with the scrawl on your face" he said standing by my table
"Oh I ah I was just thinking" I replied hastily not really listening to what he was saying
"About?" he asked interested

Was he really interested or did he feel bad for cheating on me? Wait we weren't even together why would I think that?
"Alex" he said again and I cleared my throat
"Oh ah nothing" I said
"Are you okay? Because you seem a bit off" he asked me and I forced a smile
"Yeah no I'm fine was just thinking about how I still have so much work and Jane had to have a baby shower" I didn't even know what I was saying
"Jane has a few more months to go you know that" he said and I looked at him
"Yeah but that's why you need planning?" I half laughed but it didn't really sound to good I was not sure what to say to him I felt weird knowing he was just with another woman while I was sitting here doing God knows what, he looked at me in a weird way
"Are you sure because I can call a doctor..."
"Yeah no I'm fine maybe just too much work" I replied again this time smiling more
"Not that I believe you but I have some work to catch up on tonight but can we move our dinner date?" he asked and my heart felt like it was shattering into million pieces
"Yeah sure not a problem" I replied my voice breaking a little
"Okay" he looked at me again and placed a small kiss on my forehead I closed my eyes as I felt tears welled up in my eyes but I kept them at bay, He couldn't know I was upset about one lousy damn beautiful woman, yeah maybe why he was cancelling our dinner date because he was going with her

By the end of the day I went home not bothering to say good bye to Hayden I was too upset. When I got home I cried myself to sleep, I know pathetic right?

The next day nothing new happened and by the afternoon on Friday came, I was glad to go home I decided to ask Hayden if he need anything more than I could go home and soak in a bath so I made my way to the office not wanting to knock I walked right in...

"Hayden..."

Really wrong move...
There was the woman I saw standing next to Hayden and she was standing way to close with her hand on his shoulder mid-way through a laugh, in which he didn't look like he minded and it looked like I was interrupting something both of them looked up at me

"Shit sorry I should have knocked..."
"Alex" Hayden said hastily
"I'm sorry" I said again turning around and rushed out the door

How could I have been so stupid? How could I not see that Hayden would never like me?

"Alex"

How the hell should I have not noticed it before?

"Alex" I heard someone yell behind me
"What?!" I yelled back and saw Hayden trying to get my attention
"Sorry Hayden I should have knocked I'm sorry" I didn't know what else to say
"Alex why are you apologizing you didn't do anything wrong?" he said standing closer to me
"I can see you have something better to do I'm sorry I interrupted I'm going now" I felt embarrassed at all of this
"Hey, hey it's not what it seems we are just having a meeting for something important tomorrow" Hayden told me but I didn't know what to think
"Hayden you don't have to explain to me" I said again and he took my face in his hands
"Alex do you trust me?" That was the question did I trust him but my mouth took over
"Yes" I replied
"Be ready at 12 tomorrow" he said again leaving more confused than ever
"But...I"
"Just be ready I will pick you up" he said giving me kiss and walked back to his office while I stood there like a gaping fish
"What should I wear?" I yelled
"Something casual but nice" he yelled back laughing

I didn't know what was going on first my friends were acting weird, and then Hayden with this woman now I stood there more confused as ever, what the hell was going on?
