Chapter 13 (It was a Mistake)

Friday morning I felt fresh and happy because I knew nothing could stop me today. I dressed in a grey pencil skirt topping it off with a black blouse and black heels I felt good and for the first time I had time to spare. I made myself coffee, poured it into my flask and decided I might as well call it an early day.

The drive to Blacc Enterprises was like Déjà vu all over again and when I entered the front lobby I got greeted by the receptionist
"Good Morning Miss Knight so good to see you again" Cindy I think her name was said
"Good morning and please call me Alex" I said to her smiling
"Sure thing, everything is ready in your office, Jane is already up there so she will show you where" Cindy replied and I thanked her making my way up

Top floor and it felt good to be on the top floor, I was where a CEO was and I was treated with respect, not like my real job where I was constantly thrown to the wolves. I saw Jane get up
"Hey Alex" She said waving she was more excited than I was
"Hey Jane is Hayden in?" I asked her and she shook her head no
"No why?" she asked
"Oh I'm the one who will be sitting here from Tech Support" I replied
"This was going to be so fun" Jane replied excitedly
"Jane you're talking in riddles?" I told her as she clicked what I was talking about

"Actually he doesn't even know who will be sitting here" she said showing me to my office
"Thank you Oh so you mean he won't know that it's me?" I thought back to what Damon said
"No he won't Hayden knows he will be working with someone from Tech Support but he doesn't know it would be you" she said and smiled
"Well than that would be great news to share, please when he comes in don't tell him it's me" I replied as she sealed her lips
"He would just get the shock of his life" she replied leaving me in the office alone

The office was really big well two of my offices at Tech Support could fit into this, no make that three, the back was opened with windows so I could see the skyscrapers from the top floor I was in. The furniture was a dark oak which I presume was expensive I opened my one drawer and saw a lot of stationary, geez they even over packed the drawers I smiled. This could not be as bad as I thought. Taking my bag I unpacked all my folders and laptop getting ready to start my day, but before I could start I heard his voice just outside my door

"Are they in?" he asked
"Yes sir" I could hear the smile in her voice and I prepared myself and I was ready to face him

Till I heard the knock on the door, my heart started beating faster in my chest and my breath hitched. What should I do? I'm not ready wait, wait the door opened and in walked Hayden

"Good morning welc..." his sentenced died in the air when he looked at me
"Good morning Mr. Blacc" I said standing up stretching my hand out, composing myself quickly. Way to go Alex I have no idea where that came from but I even shocked myself, pat on the back for me
"Alex what are you doing here?" He asked surprised my hand dropped
"Well you asked for the brains in the company so here I am" I smiled pointing to myself
"I mean...I didn't expect-"
"What me to be the brains of the company?" I finished for him but he looked mad and that is what I wanted
"No that is not what I meant I mean..."
"What Mr. Blacc?" I asked waiting patiently
"Hayden please" he responded

"I'm sorry Mr. Blacc but this is business hours and..."
"STOP!" he yelled which did shut me up when shut the door so we could be alone in the office without anyone hearing this time because my office was still opposite his but further away from Jane
"What are you doing?" he asked coming closer to me and I thought for a moment
"Well I am here because you asked for someone..."

"No! I mean as if you don't know me?" he softened his voice at the end
"Nothing I really am just here to do my job and I would see you as my boss" I replied honestly
"Oh really I know you're still angry at me" he said looking back at me
"Why should I be angry?" I asked
"If this is about the other night"
"What that you kissed me out of the blue then disappeared again?" I asked leaning closer to him
"Yes okay I'm sorry I know it was out of line" he said and I felt a lump form in my throat
"Oh" was all I could say because I knew what was coming next
"It was a mistake and it shouldn't have happened" he said again and this time it felt worse when he said it out loud
"Well then that is out of the way can we go on with work" I said sitting back down and looking at the papers on the desk, he sighed and turned to leave but stood halfway at the door
"If we are going to work together you should know the rules" he said turning his head to me
"As you say boss" I replied and I got a slamming of the door

It felt like I could breathe again I don't know what came over me but when he said it was a mistake I knew he meant it. What did I think that when I work with him he will kiss me again or everything will just be sunshine and roses? Wake the fuck up Alex this is Hayden Blacc, the business side of him but there was another side of him I thought the side in Italy the caring side. Yeah right he is back in his own territory and you're his prey just waiting to screw up

Play by his rules or get kicked that part went over and over in my head his rules could be bad.

I buried myself in work I really didn't have a care anymore, I looked up as Jane popped her head in the office
"Hey are going to lunch?" she asked and I smiled
"I wish I have a few more stuff to sort out here so I am going to have to pass" I told her honestly
"Please remember to eat" She said and I nodded
"Will do" I yelled as she closed the door again

About four in the afternoon I was ready to face him again I took my papers which he had to look over and I walked to his office. I knocked on the door

"Come in" he yelled I walked in and again for the second time that day it felt like déjà vu all over again and the same as the last time he didn't look up I cleared my throat and he still thought the papers in front of him was more important
"I know it's you Alex" he replied and looked up at me
"Oh I just thought" I wanted to say but the look he gave me said otherwise
"Never mind! Anyway I just wanted your approval of these so I can send them in" I said handing him the papers as he took it still looking into my eyes.

Blue eyes that thought came back to me and I smiled when he looked away, what the hell am I doing here thinking about the past, Snap out of it Alex

"Can you just replace these two to sixes and these three to nine then you can come back so I can approve it" he said handing them back to me
"Yes sir" I replied but I could see I hit a nerve when I said that I turned and walked out of his office and back to mine
"Thank you Jane" I yelled down the corridor because I saw she put coffee on my desk
"I think you need it" she yelled back and I laughed

Boy did I need it because I had to go back to his office I took a huge sip of the coffee and started working on the paper again. When I was done after a couple of minutes I went back to knock on his door, but there was no answer and I knocked again

This time I didn't wait for a reply as I opened the door dashing right in and stopped dead in my tracks. I wished I had a camera for this moment because the sight in front of me was one I never saw, Hayden was half laying on his chair with his head resting on the top of the chair and his eyes were closed. He looked so peaceful and I still wondered if I should bother him till one piece of his dark hair fell unto his forehead.

Fuck I thought I really wanted to put it back in its place I tip toed closer to his desk

"What are you doing?" he said still with his eyes closed I swear I almost had a heart attack right then and there I had to come up with something and quick
"I uh thought you were sleeping" I said in which I was proud but he opened his eyes and looked back at me I could see a ghostly smile playing on his lips. What so he thinks that was funny
"Yeah sleeping when you were just minutes ago in the office and tip toeing thinking that I didn't hear you?" He replied

"Well it was worth a shot" I said before thinking
"Still speak your mind" he stated and I gave a small smile
"At least I am honest" I replied again which was not supposed to come out for him to hear
"What did that mean?" He sat up straight looking at me
"Nothing" I added quickly but he just looked at me not convinced but left it there
I handed him the papers and he looked satisfied signing where it was needed and handed them back to me.

"Thank you" I said and walked back to my office, I sat back down and worked, in that time Jane popped her head in the office again
"See you Monday" she replied and I smiled
"See you Monday Jane" I said back to her and threw myself in work again
After what seemed like forever I looked at the clock and saw it was just past seven at night well there I go again forgetting it was Friday while I am still working, I decided to call it a night packing up all my stuff switching off the lamp I closed the office door behind me. I looked opposite when I saw Hayden's light was still on and the door was wide open.

I popped my head in when I saw he was still deep in work
"Good Night Hayden" I said to him and he looked up
"Good night Alex" he replied and looked back at his papers

Well so much for being nice I thought making my way to the elevator and going home.

When I arrived at my apartment I got there at the worst timing ever
