Evie's POV

"So, we're gonna shadow around the new students...great." Grace Khatri said as we all were sitting in the principal's office. Lars Sua giggled and said, "Truth be told, when you called us all down here at the same time, I thought we were all getting expelled!"

"No, no, far from that. Now, keep in mind, the new students are working on their English, remember when you guys were freshmen?" the principal said. We all nodded and then 4 children walked in.

"Girls, this is Vanessa Perez from Mexico, Adaline Meier from Switzerland, Jamie Rocha from Brazil, Caleb Berlusconi from Italy, and finally, Vance Goh from Singapore! Mia, you speak Spanish, do you mind taking Vanessa around? You'll stay with the rest of the group, however."

"Sure!" Mia Fernandez said, smiling at the group of kids. "Come on, let's start the tour." Sunny Kobayashi said, and Vance slammed into a wall.

"Did we ever slam into the wall as freshmen?" Lars said. I swatted them and typed into Google Translate. "We all need to take charge of one kid because Google Translating the same sentence into 5 languages is too much work."

"We know English." Adaline said with a strong accent. "At least I do."

"Oh thank God, cause I'm failing French." Grace said. "All I know is J'aime porter des vêtements...et manger...oui oui du pain merci au revoir."

"None of these kids even speak French!" Sunny said, rolling her eyes. I sighed and said, "Okay, who understands at least a bit of English? Who can understand what I'm saying?"

Everyone raised their hands except Vanessa, who was talking with Mia in Spanish. We shrugged it off, feeling slightly thankful. Lars was listening in on the conversation and said, "Thank God I passed Spanish 1. I heard my name...and the words idiota total. WHY ARE YOU CALLING ME A TOTAL IDIOT, MIA? E ke le aoga!"

"Fokasu!" Sunny screeched.

"Main tumhen nahin samajh sakata, bevakooph!" Grace screamed back. I sighed and looked around at the confused kids. "I know a few words in these languages because of how much these kids insult each other. Sunny's screaming 'Focus,' Lars is saying that Mia sucks, and I don't know a lick of what Grace just said other than 'idiot.' Please hold."

I slapped each of my friends playfully and said, "You guys, there's kids here. Mia, sonnenschein, go gather up the rest of these nicht so schlaue Leute and follow me."

"What did you just call us?" Grace said. I shrugged and said, "I called you all 'not smart.' It's a step down from the insults Lars and Grace were hurling at each other. We don't wanna traumatize these kids."

"Is this school haunted?" Caleb asked, making me nearly slam into a pole.

"I'm sorry...what?" Sunny asked. Jamie cleared her throat and said, "This senior we passed in the halls said to watch our backs because this school is haunted. Is it true?"

"No, it's not haunted. And my advice would be to not listen to seniors, because on my first day here the seniors teamed up to get every single freshman into the wrong class. We're all about inclusion and diversity and friendship here but...the seniors can get cutthroat."

"Oh. Darn it...I was hoping this school had a ghost." Adaline said.

"Come on, let's continue the tour so we don't get in trouble for traumatizing freshmen." Lars said.
