Grace's POV

"You know who's birthday it is today, right?" Sunny Kobayashi said, throwing her arm around me. I nodded and said, "Kai Hudson's, right?"

"Bingo. It's all anyones talking about. Apparently he rented out an entire shopping mall for tonight, I have no clue how he managed that. And we weren't invited, how rude." Sunny said, cracking her knuckles.

"Guys, we don't need to hang around a homophobic jerk like him anyway." Mia Fernandez said, coming up behind us.

"Come on. Homophobia is the only phobia you can make fun of, cause it's not a phobia. You're not scared of gay people, you're just a jerk." Sunny said.

"PREACH!" I yelled, high-fiving her. I heard laughter and turned around.

"Lars!" I yelled, giving my best friend a hug. Lars Sua laughed and said, "Were any of you invited to Kai's party?"

"Are you kidding me? Do you seriously think he'd invite a group of gays to a party?" I said.

"To be perfectly fair, half of the kids in this school are LGBTQ+, and half of the kids in our grade are invited. Actually, most of the kids." Mia said. I sighed and said, "Guys. I have an idea. Where the hell's Evie?"

"At the library or something." Mia said.

"How dare she abandon us! Anyway, here's our plan. We're gonna go to Kai's party."

"Unprompted and uninvited?" Lars asked. I nodded and Lars said, "I'm in."

"I'll bring all the pride flags and a knuckle sandwich." Sunny said. I laughed and said, "Physical contact is not needed, but you do you."

"Guys?" Evie Schubert said.

"GEEZ! EVIE! You scared me!" I said.

"Haha. Anyway, I hear we have a party to get to." Evie said. Mia nodded and pulled some rainbow sticky notes out of her backpack pocket and stuck one on a nearby locker.

"We're gonna make Kai fear the rainbow."

____________

"Quick question before we go in there: how gay do I look on a scale of 1-10?" Lars asked, smoothing out their rainbow skirt.

"1,000, Kai's gonna run away screaming for his Bible and tell you you're going to hell." I said.

"Alright! And you, my dear, are gonna get told that you're going to hell." Lars said.

"That's fine with me, I'm not even Christian." I said. "I'm a freaking Hindu."

"I brought rainbow glitter that we can toss on Kai!" Evie said.

"I brought rainbow streamers." Mia said.

"I brought like- every pride flag in existence. Give me the abrosexual one after this party is over, though." Sunny said.

I smiled and looked to my friends.

This was gonna be a great night.
