Grace's POV

"We've been at this school and have been friends for almost a month and I'm still confused." I said. "I'm still adjusting to the fact that we have to start school at 7:30 in the morning."

"Everyone here says 'oh, that's normal.' No it's not?" Evie Schubert said. "How are they not totally sleep-deprived?"

"Oh, I've heard American high schoolers get sleep deprived, but I never believed it until I came here." Sunny Kobayashi said. "Also, why do American schools make such a big deal about hall passes? Why do we need a pass to go walk in the hallways? Is it really that big of a deal?"

"And I'm over here thinking lockers and cafeterias were just a myth! Like I've seen them in the movies but I didn't think they actually existed. Who knew?" Lars Sua said.

"I still have trouble opening my combination lock." Mia Fernandez said. "On my first day here, I locked myself out of my locker by total accident and the janitor looked at me like I needed to go into a mental institution. Does he not understand that lockers don't exist in some other countries?"

"And I know we don't have them because we're a boarding school and whatnot, but I've seen those bright yellow school buses pick up the innocent elementary school kids, how are those kids not embarrassed to be seen in those? It's a bright yellow bus! Just looking at it gives me a migraine!" Evie complained.

"Also, why are we called 'sophomores?' And why are the men fresh?" Lars screeched. I gasped and responded with, "And what about the women? This is sexist!"

"Also, I thought schools having a nurse was just in TV." Sunny said. "Okay, the point is, this is culture shock."

"No, the biggest culture shock for me was lunch. We eat in a set room, and get a plastic tray full of things that do not look edible or good...and also a weird tiny carton of milk." I said. "Cafeterias are weird and I do not stand for them, give us freedom and let us eat where we want."

"And I've heard from some kid in my English class that her cousin goes to American public school and they have to stand, face the flag, and recite a Pledge of Allegiance." I said.

"Also, I've never seen one of those water fountain things until I came here. It took me twenty minutes to learn how to use it, and even then, water got in my eyes and it was not a pleasant feeling." Mia groaned.

"Does the principal at every American school recite announcements over the loudspeaker every single morning? Because that's so annoying and I'm kinda sick of it." Evie said.

"Guys, American schools are weird, but I like it here. It's fun." Lars said, smiling a little. We all smiled and then Mia said, "If I didn't go to American school, I wouldn't have met you guys. And you guys are the best friends I've ever had."

"Awww." Sunny said, smiling. "Come on, let's go sneak a weird milk carton from the cafeteria."

"Agreed."
