Before I could go down, he asked me about the ladder inside.
"Ah, that. Hagdan 'yan patungong impyerno," I kid.
Actually that's the ladder up the rooftop. I went to climb it and he went next to me.
"Sasama ka patungong impyerno?" I asked. Teasing him.
"Basta ba ikaw kasama, kahit saan iyan pupuntahan ko." he said and winked.
Can he stop winking? Ugh.
I just shrugged and went up.
The fresh air greeted me. I took a deep breath and sat there. The familiar surface of the roof made me smile. It's been a while since I went here.
I was so absorbed by the amazing view that I almost forgot I had company.
He sat next to me and took out the locket. His hands caressed it like it was the most expensive thing in the world. He opened it and I can't help peeking. There is a woman in her 20s who's carrying a baby and a man beside her. They looked jubilant. My gaze moved to Clyde. He eyed the photo with so much yearning. They must be his parents.
"Mga magulang mo?" I asked to break the silence.
"Oo. Kaso wala na sila."
He then placed the locket in his pocket.
You know, you didn't have to tell me that they died. I didn't ask in the first place. And now you're making me guilty for asking about them.
I coughed in hopes of finding my voice back.
"Hindi ko ninakaw 'yan ha. Napulot ko lang sa bakuran noon," I told him.
"Alam ko. Wala namang magnanakaw na maganda," he said, smiling.
A small smirk escaped my lips.
He moved near me and whispered to my ears, "Mabuti na lang ikaw nakakita. Salamat, Cloe."
When I faced him, we were a few inches apart. He's smiling and I can see my reflection from his eyes. I moved away from him.
My heart's beating fast. Why does he have to invade my personal space?
I saw him take out a pen and journal.
"Huy saan mo nakuha 'yan?" I glared at him. That's my property.
"Kinuha ko dun sa may lalagyan mo ng libro."
"Baka ninakaw," I muttered.
He looked at me like I just offended him. I raised my brow and rolled my eyes at him as a reply. His lips curled into a pout.
"Pwedeng magtanong?"
"Ano?" I asked.
I lied down and closed my eyes.
"Hindi ka ba nag-aaral? Kasi sabi dun sa bucket list mo 'Go to School'. "
I sighed mentally.
"Home schooled. Sa bahay lang ako nag-aaral. Hindi iyong sa labas talaga."
I decided to just sit back up because anytime soon, I'll fall asleep.
"Bakit?" he asked curiously.
Because of my heart.
Would you change if you knew about it?
I stayed silent.
"Alam mo, mahirap lang talaga kami kaya kailangan kong huminto pagkatapos ng grade 7." he said.
I don't know what to say.
I rested my head on his shoulder. I felt him stiffened around me.
"Marunong ka pala mag drawing," I commented. There I was, watching the sunset. He drew it well but I want him to be in it too.
This time around, I looked at him and he did the same. I guess this is invading mine and his personal space but it felt comfortable. His eyes are so captivating that everytime I look in it, I drown.
"Cloe," he called.
I leaned on his shoulder again, breaking our gazes.
"Hmm?"
He caressed my hair.
"Gawin natin bucket list mo."
