The gloomy cloud replaced the sunny weather. I'm sitting by the window looking out at the sky. It's gonna rain. We don't even have an umbrella.
I glimpsed at Clyde who's sitting beside me. The thought that I'm sitting in a classroom full of students the same age as me felt so surreal.
Clyde glanced at me upon hearing me sigh.
"Sana sinabi mo na pupunta tayo ng school," I grunted.
"Sorry na po. Nakalimutan kasi."
"Sabado bukas kaya sasamahan mo akong bumili ng school supplies," I informed him.
He cleared his throat and said, "Masusunod po binibini."
It's now our free time before going home at 4 pm. Now that I think about it, going to school without any necessities is a big joke on our part. Thank God they didn't ask about that matter but I'm sure they're bewildered.
"You're not from here. How did you get in?"
I looked at Clyde who surely didn't understand what she just said so I stood up for ourselves.
"We're transferees," I answered.
I stopped myself from rolling my eyes at her. Her mere presence annoys me. The guys around us must have felt the tension and I'm thankful for Noah for breaking it and suggested we go inside.
The seats for me and Clyde were already there. I didn't even know that the Class President already got us seats.
The class seats are divided into two groups, left and right, and a narrow way in the middle. There are 5 rows and 5 columns in each group. I made my way to the seat by the window on the last row in the right and automatically Clyde seated beside me.
"Gusto ko sanang umupo diyan eh," he complained after we adjusted comfortably in our seats.
I faced the window, dismissing his remarks.
A smile curved from my lips when I saw his reflection pout.
Group of students went to us to create a conversation since we're new but they ended up chit-chatting with only Clyde. It's not like I wanted to have a conversation with my mood which that brat Marielle ruined, but I still listened.
Twenty minutes. Twenty minutes of staring into his reflection in the window. That whole time I was facing away from him but never did I look away. I actually felt good after seeing how happy he is talking with them.
I know that he didn't get to finish school and this is probably nostalgic for him but I didn't know that this would make him more happy than me. He must have loved going to school... and he must have his former classmates he misses.
From that day, I heard from the bottom of my heart, a promise that was made. A promise to take care of myself so that I can see him do what he wants, achieve his goals, laugh at his mistakes and make his own bucket list. I'll be there every step. Even if my bucket list is already fulfilled.
Suddenly the students all stood up and so did we. I looked at the door. An old man was standing there who's probably a teacher in this school. He looked around and motioned the Class President to go out. I saw the teacher talk to him and he nodded afterwards.
He went back to the room and stood in front.
"Listen everyone," he stated with full authority.
Immediately everyone shut their mouths to what he was about to say. Now I'm not surprised that he's the class president.
"Our math teacher won't be coming for our class because of a seminar," The class was filled with glee after hearing his statement. "But he has left us an activity to do so get your books and open page 54 and answer activity A and B. Write your answer with solutions in a piece of paper," he added and wrote the important details on the board.
Clyde and I looked at each other.
"Wala tayong libro," I told him.
He smiled. "Ako na ang bahala," he cheered and winked at me.
"President," he called Ken. "Pahiram naman ng libro saka pahingi na din ng papel."
Ken took his book and handed it to us. He also gave each of us a paper.
"Wala din pala kaming ballpen," Clyde added.
I slapped my forehead. Very lucky. Just lucky.
"Ako!" someone shouted from afar. "May extra akong ballpens," Noah chimed and went to us with his pen holder.
"Lower your voice Noah," the president spoke.
We started answering our activity which was about polynomial equations. I finished answering mine in about 15 minutes and coincidentally the president too. He stood up to the table in front, placed his paper there and put the pentel pen holder above it.
I stood up to also put mine. When I turned around, I received amused looks from some of them who probably are surprised that I finished early.
Clyde stared at me with mouth open.
"Cloe patulong naman oh," he pleaded and blinked at me several times. I chuckled and helped him out.

"Tell me how you got in. The school didn't inform me about transferees."
The class fell silent. I didn't know what to say and I also told Clyde to stay quiet. Well I guess this is the end of going to school, a dream of mine.
"Excuse me Miss Mendez, they're actually my friends from far away who recently moved in here yesterday. I already told my father that they are going to transfer here but I guess he forgot since he's busy," Ken interjected.
Their homeroom teacher nodded her head as if she believed him. I stopped myself from giving a reaction that proves he's lying. Of course I still want to attend school.
The class resumed as if nothing happened.
"Thank you," I mouthed Ken.
He shrugged his shoulders as a reply and crossed his arms before listening to the class but I saw his mouth curve into a smile.
I was about to listen to the class too but saw Marielle giving me a glare. Her nostrils flared as if she's mad at me.
She gave me an eye roll before finally facing the front.
So she likes the President huh.
I scoffed.

"Pass the forms and answer them. The deadline is tomorrow," Miss Mendez announced as she gave the forms in each row.
"President," she called Ken after reaching the 5th row. "Be sure to collect all the forms and then pass it to the guidance office tomorrow," she ordered him before ending the class.
Some of the students hurriedly left their seats.
Ken took one and gave the rest to Marielle. She then handed it to Noah after taking one for her. Noah happily gave me the remaining forms and I passed the last one to Clyde who's enjoying his time because he's finally seated next to the window.
And that is the start of how our row became a group of friends for the rest of the school year.
