Emily's P.O.V:
"Here's the Hershmen's agreement papers. Send them downtown." I smiled at Jack as I handed over the sealed envelope.
Jack was my assistant. Dylan threw a fit when he realised it Jack, the guy who awed me since college, was my assistant in this law firm.
I kept telling him that Jack was gay but he kept saying that I was capable of turning a circle straight.
As much as I love my husband, I don't think I'm capable of doing that.
Ah, you people don't know, do you?
That's right. Dylan and I have been married for five years.
He proposed to me in a cafe.
I had just graduated from Harvard and he was in process of writing his book.
After graduation, he took me to this little cafe that we always go to whenever we got bored of academics.
Now normal people propose through ring in champagne or ring in a cake.
Dylan proposed through ring in a chocolate milkshake, since I like that more than any other drink.
It was sweet of him.
And of course I said yes.
We moved to New York as I had a job offer from one of the biggest law firms here and Dylan thought that he had more chances of scoring a publisher here.
We could self-publish, of course, but Dylan was adamant on finding a well-known publisher.
Life was going as easy as it could but that didn't mean that it was all rainbows and ponies.
We have been together for almost nine years.
After graduation, we went into the same college and then I went to Harvard and he went to writing his book.
During the time I was studying law at Harvard, that was a really difficult phase for Dylan and me.
I was all the way over in Cambridge, Massachusetts and he was back home.
The long distance thing was really difficult.
Things got so bad that we even took a break for three months.
Now that was a really difficult phase. To take our minds off each other, we even dated different people but we still ended up together.
This time, it was I who chased him. But that's a story for another time.
Ultimately, you know what they say, when two hearts are meant for each other, no distance is too far, no time is too long and no other love can break them apart.
So, everything went back on track.
Things got funny when we adjusted being engaged. It was this beautiful, passionate, yet awkward phase between relationship and marriage.
At least it diverted Mom's attention. She became preoccupied with the marriage preparations.
Mom and Dad weren't still on better terms but they at least were civil.
I guess some things never change and some people never grow old and wise.
Rebecca went off to open her own clothing line.
In fact, most of mine and Samantha's clothes are of Amethyst.
Samantha became a college professor. She said that there couldn't be a better profession for her than teaching as that was what she knew how to do best and I couldn't disagree.
