Hiccup wakes up. He is in so much pain. Yesterday was probably the worst beating ever, but he still gets ready for school. He puts on a blue shirt and a white sweatshirt. He puts on jeans and his shoes. He walks down the stairs and gets his bag. He doesn't see or hear Tom and he instantly feels happier.
He walks out the door and feels the November air in his face. He walks on the sidewalk and walks to school. He isn't used for Snotlout beating him up. But he shrugs it off. He goes to his locker and gets his stuff. He can hear squeaking and he instantly wishes it would stop but knows full and well, it won't.
He walks into homeroom and sits down. He realizes nobody is teasing him. No one laughing at him. No one is making him feel less then one of them.
The bell and morning announcements go on. They said that there is an assembly. Everyone gets up and heads to the gym. He feels someone grab his arm. He looks over and sees Astrid. He smiles and they walk to the bleachers. They sit down and Ruffnut sits to his other side. Slowly the others-Tuffnut, Snotlout, and Fishlegs- come and sit by other three. Hiccup doesn't mid. He doesn't say anything. He doesn't want to think this is a dream, wake up, and realize that he has no friends, has a horrible past, beaten up present, and unknown future, probably full of disappointment.
But he knows that people get miracles. But not everyone. Hiccup has known that for the past eight years. But he doesn't want to jinx it. He knows he has to wait it out. He knows it will come, just not knowing when or what it is, is a different story.
The assembly was just about bullying and all that. Hiccup didn't pay attention though. His stump was bugging him. It would tingle, stop, then feel a little bit of pain, but he didn't think anything about it.
They leave and go to their classes. Their classes have been shortened. When they get to lunch, Hiccup and Astrid sit at a table. Astrid looks like she is thinking about something because she isn't eating and her eyebrows are furrowed in concentration. Hiccup smiles at the look on her face. She looks cute like that... wait. What s he thinking?
Nobody would ever like him like that but that doesn't mean he can't. But someone told him nobody cares enough about him.
"Astrid... what are you thinking about?"
She seems to snap out of her thoughts but a troubled look crosses her face. She looks up at him.
"Hiccup... can I ask you something?" Hiccup nods.
"Um... I had a dream last night and... um... I don't want to go into detail of what it was about but... um... I wanted to ask... if you are abused at home... and don't you dare lie to me!" She adds quickly knowing what he was going to say. He sighs. That's enough for Astrid to know his answer. Her face instantly falls. How could someone do this to him?
"Why? Why didn't you tell me?"
"I... I... I can't... He... He could of killed me if I told anyone. Hypothetically speaking. I told someone when I was nine and... he found out... and... I couldn't walk for a week because of how hard he beat me." His voice was a whisper at this point. Astrid puts her arm around his shoulders and pulls him into a hug. He wraps his arms around her.
"Ahem..." They jump apart and Ruffnut stands there, arms crossed, but smirking. Astrid can see that she is anxious about something. She motions for Astrid to follow and she looks at Hiccup, silently telling him, she will be back soon. He nods and Astrid stands up, follows Ruffnut out of the cafeteria.
Ruffnut and Astrid stop in the hall. Ruffnut faces Astrid. She can see something is bothering her.
"He missed his plain."
