Megan's POV

I walk into Jitters three days later with a huge smile on my face, playing "Rebel Yell" over and over again in my head. I love that song.

I immediately get to work and start brewing the coffee. Then I start taking customer's orders.

"What's gotten you into a good mood?" Jamie, another worker, asks with a wide grin.

I shrug, "Just listening to music in my head. Let's just hope no one makes me lose my good mood."

I help Jamie make the drinks and start handing them out. The door jingles and I turn towards the sound, greeted by Iris. Without a second thought I roll my eyes and go back to the counter.

"Megan! Just let me apologize!"

"It took you more than a week to apologize?" I ask without looking at her.

"I needed some time to get rid of my anger. You'd do the same."

I open my mouth to reply, but someone interrupts me. "Hey Megan."

Iris turns around and comes face to face with a tall man with sleek black hair and hazel eyes. She looks back at me. "Who's this?"

"Hey Jacob. Iris, this is Jacob. Jacob, Iris." I introduce the two. "We met at the park on Friday," I explain quickly.

"Meg, come here for a minute," Iris drags me to the other side of Jitters. "Dude! You better not be cheating on Barry!"

"What the hell? Why would you think that?"

"Well duh, he's super cute."

"And you warn me not to cheat on my fiancé," I roll my eyes. "Maybe you should give that advice to yourself," I begin to walk back over to Jacob, but Iris grabs my arm and pulls me back.

"You two just met. How do you know he's not some creepy stalker?"

"Because he's a nice guy."

"How do you know?"

"I just do."

"You mean like how you just 'knew' your first boyfriend was a nice guy?"

"Shut the hell up!" I yell and glare at Iris. "You don't get it, do you?"

"What're you talking about?" She must've mentioned my ex on purpose, because she didn't even flinch when I yelled at her so suddenly. She even held a small smile on her face.

"This is exactly why I'm mad at you. You always mention my past. This time it was on purpose! Do me a favor and stop!" I roughly shove Iris away and walk out of Jitters. Everyone's eyes were on me, including Jacob.

I get as far away as I can from Jitters. I have to stop ditching work. Now that I think about it, why haven't I been fired already? Gosh I wish I still worked at the precinct.

I have no idea where I am when I finally stop walking. It wasn't the bad side of the city, and it wasn't the good side either. It was neither busy nor abandoned.

On the side of the street I was on, orchards stretch as far as the eye can see, with blossoms blooming on the branches. On the other side, there were rows of houses. The traffic wasn't busy at all, and for once wildlife was more common than skyscrapers and other buildings.

I continue to walk past the houses until both sides of the street were surrounded by trees and the sidewalk was dirt. Then I sit down underneath the shadow of a tree. I let my head fall into my hands as I silently begin to cry.

Why does she have to bring him up? Why did Iris use that against me when she knew I'd get furious? God, why am I so emotional about one thing and unaffected about another?
