HOURS later, Maddie finds herself in the exact same place she was yesterday, sitting with her back against the cold lockers as she waits for Mr Harris to let Stiles out of detention. She feels like she's going out of her mind.
Her phone ran out of juice around half an hour ago, a mistake on her part for playing games to try and pass the time. Now most of the entertainment she's found is from counting the lockers one by one across the entire hallway. She'd walked end to end, counted side to side, and still the time didn't seem to go by any quicker.
Luck was on her side this time though when she texted her mom that her and Stiles had a project they needed to do for school so she was going to his house. It didn't exactly go down well —— Maddie received a light scolding about not telling her about things sooner —— but Maddie's sick of being treated like glass. The same thing happened last year and she hated it. It made her feel foreign in her own skin. She wasn't made to be treated like glass and yet the way her mind works makes her perceived to be treated as such.
She feels like her mom is one more home late text away from completely banning Maddie from leaving the house. The plan ever since she was released from hospital was to come straight home from school, regardless of who drove her ( something's telling her that Harry's going to be driving her from now on ). Maybe that's where she gets it from, the inability to tell people how frustrated or angry she is until the smallest thing sets her off.
Either way, unless her mom gets an email from Mr Harris or the principal —— still hasn't wrapped her head around that one —— that she was sent to the principal's office, she should be fine.
There is no way that Mr Harris should be allowed to keep Stiles in detention for this long. It's already dark. The sun has said goodbye and the moon has taken its place. They don't have time to worry about sitting around in detention. If Maddie could drive, she would've borrowed the jeep's keys by now and been on her way, but she can't. Allison can't help, she's going to be with Scott, helping him with his full moon. It leaves Stiles and Maddie to help break Isaac out of jail before the supernatural can of beans is spilled.
Maddie knocks on the door of the classroom, getting a major sense of déjà vu as she pushes it open, poking her head into the room sheepishly. "Is he going to be out anytime soon? It's just— we kinda have a place we really need to be. Like, really need to be."
Nightfall means werewolf, her mind taunts.
Mr Harris looks up from his papers he's marking, placing one onto the smaller pile. "Well, Mr Stilinski still really needs to stay for the remaining time of his detention," he replies, mimicking her emphasis and tone. Maddie bites her tongue, keeping her small smile on her face. "Like, really needs to stay."
It's another twenty minutes before Stiles is finally let out of detention. The second he grabs his phone, there are five missed calls from Allison. Maddie can only assume the likelihood that her phone would look the same if it had charge.
As they exit the school in a rush, beelining for the keep, Maddie stays by Stiles' side, him holding his phone in front of them, the call on speaker as they call Allison to know what was so urgent.
