( the abomination; pt.iii )

THE crowd is going wild, everyone excited for tonight's game. Though no one is more excited than the boy with the 7 printed on the back of his sports gear. Harry finally got an all clear to get back into lacrosse. He still has to be cautious with his shoulder, just like Maddie had to be with her wrist whilst it was healing.

Not unlike herself, Maddie is worried because the team they're up against has someone who is not afraid to pummel the other players to the ground. She winces into Stiles' shoulder whenever one of their team gets thrown to the ground, one player taking the hit for Harry. The ball narrowly avoids getting caught by the opponent, flying into the air from the fallen player's net and into Harry's net, who skims past another player, shooting the ball into the goal.

Cheers erupt from the bleachers, a standing ovation to welcome back one of their best players, Maddie and Stiles go a little overboard, shouting out his name with whoops and jumps.

Victory is short lived when a couple minutes later, another Beacon Hills player falls to the ground, beaten down by the burly player on the other team.

"Come on!" Coach groans. "Is that thing even a teenager? I wanna see a birth certificate!" His eyes still on the field, Coach sits on the other side of Stiles. "Who or what is that genetic experiment gone wrong?"

"Eddie Obomowitz, Coach," Stiles answers, all—knowing, his breath visible as he breathes out. "They call him 'The Abomination'."

"Oh, that's cute," scoffs Coach before walking off to the field.

Maddie is a helpless witness as 'The Abomination' throws more players to the ground, keeping a strict eye on her cousin to be there in a moment's notice if he becomes one of the next victims.

After another near miss with her cousin —— who Maddie is now adamant is just trying to give his family heart attacks —— she refuses to watch anymore, turning her head away from the field, towards the crowd. There she spots Allison, her hand dangling beside the bleacher seats with a set of keys between her fingers. Maddie taps Stiles on the arm a few times to signal him, standing up and heading over towards the brunette.

These keys were the way in; using the game as a cover, Maddie and Stiles had a plan to get the keys and head into the principal's office where they think the bestiary might be, an old leather—bound book that the old Argent brought with him when he came into town. The task should have been easy, walk past conspicuously, grabbing the keys with as much stealth as possible, hoping the cheers and screams of the crowd would block out any sound of the metal clinking together, but as everything in her life goes, it wasn't that simple. As Maddie grabs the keys, closing her fingers around it, Gerard catches sight of her.

"Maddie—" His voice makes her freeze in place, her thoughts now extremely focused on the keys in her hand, worried that they may have just been caught. She places her hands in her hoodie pocket as she faces him with a tight smile, a strong hold on the keys, hoping they won't make any noise. "How are you? Not getting into too much trouble, I hope."
