Chapter 23: You and me
Luis Inaki’s POV
When I told Raigne that I would make up to her, I knew I also had to face this person. If I will make things right, then I have to start with a clean slate. I got out of my car then went inside.
“Good morning, mr San Diego.” She’s probably the secretary.
I took off my wayfarer. “Is Miss Margo Hernandez inside?”
“Do you have an appointment, sir?”
“No, but I really need to speak with her. It’s important.”
“For a while, sir. Please have a seat.” I didn’t have to wait long. Pinapasok ako agad sa opisina ng mommy ni Raigne. “Ma’am, Mr. San Diego is here.”
She looked up from what she’s been doing. “Please have a seat.” I sat across her. “To what do I owe the pleasure of your visit, Mr. San Diego?”
“I’m sorry if I came unannounced.”
“It’s alright. So, what do you want to talk about?”
She doesn’t beat around the bush. “It’s about Raigne.”
“I figured as much.”
“I’m sure you know what had happened between us, ma’am.”
“I pretty much had an idea. Raigne kept mum about her problems though. I knew she was going through something at the time but she wouldn’t tell me. And I knew it was because of you.” She said straight to my face. It made me respect her even more.
“I’m making up to her.”
“So I heard.” She nods. “Why come here to talk to me?”
“I came here to apologize.” She arched her brow. “I want to make things right between Raigne and I. And I want to start with a clean slate.”
“And that includes facing me.”
“Yes, ma’am.”
“Can you promise not to hurt my daughter again?”
I took a deep breath and looked straight in her eye. “No, ma’am. I cannot promise that she won’t get hurt again.”
Tumaas ang mga kilay niya. “Then why come here and apologize if you’re gonna hurt my daughter again?”
“I cannot tell what will happen in the next few days or months. Therefore, promising something like that is downright unrealistic.” She remained quiet. “I cannot promise you that she won’t get hurt again. However, I can assure you that I will not hurt her intentionally.”
She stared at me for a few moments without saying anything at all. Sinalubong ko ang tingin niya. “I appreciate your honesty and your effort to come here to apologize. Not everyone has the guts to face the mother of the girl they hurt. And I can see that you’re genuine.” I didn’t say anything.
“To tell you honestly, Nasaktan ako para sa anak ko. I saw how much pain you had caused her. Though, she tried hard to pretend that she was fine in front of me.”I cringe. “I’m sorry.”
“I can see that you are.” She clears her throat. “I know that pain is part of loving. However, if you hurt my daughter again, you will answer to me. You won’t get away easily next time. Are we clear, Inaki?”
