Chapter 34: Sinking boat
My face is grim as I touch the red dress my mom personally chose for me to wear for her friend's birthday celebration. It's not because it's ugly or something. It's actually amazingly stunning. However, I don't feel like going. I sighed and plopped down on the couch.
"Mom, do I really have to go?"
"Of course, darling."
"Why not just send your gift?"
Mom put down the newspaper she was reading and turned to face me. "Isabella Fuentes has been a loyal client of mine ever since I can remember. And you know, that she's a dear friend of mine."
Isabella Fuentes is a veteran actress. She will be celebrating her 50th birthday this coming Saturday. Unfortunately, mom can't attend because she has to go because she's flying to Europe tomorrow night.
"Then cancel your business trip. I really don't want to go to her party."
"Raigne, you know I can't do that. Importante ang business trip na to. Besides, di mo naman kailangan magtagal kung ayaw mo."
I sighed and scratched my head. "Fine. Basically, I just have to show up, right? Stay for an hour then leave."
She smiled. "Thank you, darling."
Tipid na lang akong ngumiti. I don't like attending formal parties. Pero ang mas malaking dahilan ay may mga press people na siguradong imbitado sa party na iyon.
This party is killing me! It's very boring. Not to mention, some press people were making it hard for me to be comfortable. Kanina pa ko umiiwas sa mga pasimpleng tanong nila about my relationship with Inaki.
If it weren't for Daphney, I would've left the moment I gave my gift to tita Isabella. Daphney is tita Isabella's youngest daughter. She's about my age. Probably that's why we get along so well. Though, we rarely see each other since she's based in the U.S.
"I hate formal parties." She muttered.
"So do I." I said with a sigh.
"My gosh. All I see are oldies."
Nagkatunog ang ngiti ko. "There are also hotties."
She rolled her eyes. "Hotties with girlfriends."
"Where's your model boyfriend, anyway?"
"We're over." My brows rose which didn't go unnoticed by her. "Hard to believe, right? I mean knowing how crazy I was about him."
"Was."
"Yep. Was. "
"What happened?"
"Well, I finally realized that I don't need a two timing bastard in my life."
"Oh."
"Why waste my life and hotness on a guy who obviously couldn't see my worth? So I dumped him and never looked back." She shared with a shrug.
"Didn't you regret your decision?"
"That was the best decision I've ever made, darling. He was a douche!"
