Epilogue: Unconditional love

My eyes opened slowly. The first person I saw was Inaki. Nakasubsob siya sa gilid ng kama habang hawak ang kamay ko. Then I remembered what happened before I lost consciousness which made me pull my hand from his hold. Nagising siya sa ginawa ko.

"Beb,"He tried to reach for my face but I dodged his touch. Pain flashed in his eyes but I didn't care. "How are you feeling?"

I did not answer. Good thing the door opened and mom came in. I tried to  get up from the bed but Inaki was quick to assist me. Pero iwinaksi ko lang ang kamay niya.

"Raigne, darling." she walked towards me then pulled me in his arms.

"Mommy," my tears welled up.

"Hush, sweetheart. How are you feeling?"

"Mom, I think I'm pregnant. What happened to my baby? I was bleeding and- and then I l- mommy..." I ended up sobbing.

She cupped my face and wiped my tears. "Sweetheart, your baby is fine. Stop crying. Hindi makakabuti sa'yo yan. Your baby is safe. Good thing, kaagad kang naitakbo ni Inaki sa hospital. You almost had a miscarriage but thank God the baby was saved."

Tumalim ang mga mata ko pagkarinig ko sa pangalan niya. Nakatayo siya sa tabi ng kama. He looked miserable.

"Mom, please tell him to leave."

Napamaang si mommy. "Sweetheart-"

"Please mom. I don't wanna see him ever again. Make him leave.," mariing saad ko na ni hindi tumingin sa gawi niya. I couldn't even look at him.

My mom sighed. "Raigne, I think you and Inaki should talk. What happened was just a big misunderstanding."

"No, mom! I don't wanna see him again! I want an annulment!"

"Calm down, hija."

"I don't wanna see him again!"

Walang kibong lumabas si Inaki. I didn't know why, but I felt even worst. I felt so empty. Mom pulled me in her arms and let me cry my heart out. Inaki didn't come inside my room again but I knew he was just outside. I didn't ask about him but my mom and friends told me.

On my second day in the hospital, tita Kriselda and tito Lucas visited. They brought a basket of fruits and flowers for me. They expressed their happiness about my pregnancy. Said they were excited to see their first grandchild. Kahit naman galit ako kay Inaki ay labas sila doon. They've been but nice to me.

Tita Kriselda held my hand. "Hija, my son loves you so much. He cried like a little boy when we were waiting outside the emergency room. He was so scared of losing you. He kept blaming himself. I've never seen him so miserable."

"Tita, I..." I sighed.

"Raigne, we won't force or ask you to hear him out, but I hope you'll give him the chance to explain his side," tito Lucas said.

Hindi ako nakakibo. Nakahinga ako ng maluwag ng may kumatok. It saved me from that awkward moment. Pero parang gusto kong magwala ng makita kung sino ang pumasok. It was Mia herself!

"Hi," she gave me an awkward smile. I almost scoffed. "Hello, tita Kris. Tito. I didn't know you two were here."

My forehead creased. So, she was close to Inaki's parents? Bineso pa niya ang dalawa. Did Inaki introduce his new girlfriend to them? Uminit ang ulo ko.

"What are you doing here?" I asked full of hostility.

"I came here to talk to you, but maybe I should start by introducing myself. I'm Mia Dela Torres. Inaki's second cousin," she said smiling.
