The weeks leading up to thanksgiving were a whirlwind. I was so excited to tell Joel. I had applied to a ton of different publishing houses in the area around my parents. I hadn't heard back from anyone yet, but I was hopeful.
I flew home on the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and nearly tackled Joel when I saw him waiting for me at baggage claim.
"Whoa there!" He laughed as I smothered him with kisses. "This is some kind of greeting."
"Well I missed the hell out of you!" I laughed still in his arms "You know you're not allowed to put me down right"
"Of course! Move to my back and I will get us out of here. I have your own special homecoming for you at home"
"Oh really?" I asked trying to sound seductive as I jumped on to his back. "Well giddy up then"
As we got out of ear shot of people, I leaned into him, "If you're lucky, your back is not the only thing I will be riding tonight."
"Someone is feeling frisky today"
"Damn straight. This whole celibacy thing is the worst. You're lucky I love you" I joked.
With that he put me down next to his truck and pulled me in for a mind and body melting kiss. "If I didn't think we would get arrested for public indecency, I would take you right here against my truck." He purred as he pressed himself against me "Come one before I get us both arrested" and he opened my door for me.
We dropped my bags off at my parents and said hi to them before we headed back out. There is always a bonfire the night before thanksgiving and its usually packed. It was a blast. We spent a few hours catching up with our friends and snuggling by the fire. I could've spent forever right there wrapped in his arms. I realized I had fallen asleep when I woke with a start. Joel laughed
"I was wondering how long you'd sleep for. You're day has been packed. Come one lets get you home." He pulled me up and walked us back to the truck. The next thing I knew, it was morning and I was waking up in my bed with Joel's arm pinning me to the bed.
I couldn't help but stare at him as he slept. Damn he was beautiful. I ran my fingers through the stubble that he has let grow. He started to stir.
"Morning beautiful" he rasped
"You're talking in your sleep" I whispered jokingly
He groaned and stretched still with his eyes closed.
"I had the most amazing dream that I woke up next to an angel" he opened his eyes and pulled me into him kissing me softly " mmmm dream come true"
I laughed, "Do these lines work on all the girls?"
"I wouldn't know. You're the only one I use them on"
I laughed an smacked him softly "I better be the only on your using those cheesy ass lines on!"
He pulled me into a deep kiss. "Only you babe"
"Good. You're going to get in trouble for being late to thanksgiving dinner."
He looked at his phone, "Ugh mom is going to murder me"
He jumped up kissed me quickly before running out the door. I eventually made my way downstairs later that morning.
Dad was sitting in the kitchen with his coffee while mom was busying getting ready to cook.
" I take it you haven't told Joel yet?" He grinned
I laughed, "No I'm waiting until tomorrow on our trip"
"We're so excited for you and to have you back much closer to home. You're a pain in the ass, but we've missed you." He laughed
I just stuck my tongue out at him and Mom laughed at both of us.
Thanksgiving dinner came and went without any drama or surprises. Joel and I had left Friday morning to camp a little farther up the coast.
We had gotten set up and were sitting outside of our bonfire watching the sunset.
"So, I have some news for you." I started
"You do?" His eyebrows raised unsure about my tone. "Good news?"
" I think so" trying to sound as vague as possible. I know he would never guess, but it's still fun to mess with him. I'm sure his first thought is that I'm pregnant
His eyes widens a little more, "Go on..." sounding even more unsure about himself
I couldn't help the gigantic smile that stretched across my face.
"I'm graduating early and moving back home in December!"
It took a second before he fully realized what I was saying
"What?! That's AMAZING!" He yelled and pulled me into a bone crushing hug. "No more long distance!!"
"I know!" I yelled back at him.
His reaction topped everything I had imagined. I couldn't wait to not be long distance anymore. The rest of the weekend was spent in each other's arms. It was everything I could've asked for.
On Sunday, I was ready to finish up the semester and get back home to Joel and my family.
