The next day at work I could barely concentrate on anything. All I could think about was the night before, that mind melting kiss and then the fact that Rebecca had shown up out of know where. I tried not to over think her presence, but it was becoming difficult. After a while I boss slammed her clipboard down in front of me making me jump.
"I've been calling your name. Where is your brain today?"
"Sorry Leigh!" I apologized.
She looked at me closely, "well you don't look hungover. Boy problems?"
"Not really problems, more like my brain over analyzing everything from our date"
" ahhh been there and hope to never go back. Why don't you go in the back and work on inventory. You're basically useless on the floor"
"You don't have to tell me twice" I exclaimed as I shuffled to the back.
I turned on music on my phone and got to work unpacking boxes and hanging everything correctly. The monotony of the work seemed to help distract from my over working brain and my shift went by a lot quicker than I expected. I drove home and passed out from the late night and early morning.
A few hours later, I woke confused to my phone ringing and seeing Mark's face light up the screen. I instantly perked up. I tried to shake myself awake.
"Mmm-hey!" I answered
"Were you asleep?" He asked
"Yea I took a nap after work because someone kept me out on a date super late"
"That jackass!" He laughed
"What are you up to?" I asked
" ughhh I'm about to go meet Rebecca to talk over coffee. I really don't want to go, but she was ridiculously distraught yesterday. So I feel like in have to."
"Yea as much as I'd like to claim you for my own, you guys have history that you can't deny. Maybe this'll be a good thing?" I said half heartedly.
" you want to claim me?" He laughed
" calm down stud muffin. You know that my feelings are not all that new. Don't go getting a big head."
"Ok! Oookk!" I could hear the smile on his face. "I was calling to see if you wanted to do something tomorrow afternoon for lunch?"
"I think I can fit you in. I just have to be back for an evening class."
"I can get you back in time. Alright I better get going to this coffee I desperately don't want to go to."
"I'm sure be'll be fine Mark. I'll see you tomorrow. Good luck"
We hung up the phone and as much as I wanted to reassure Mark, I had an uneasy feeling. I went about my evening and tried to work on some of my school work. As much as I wanted to throw myself into my homework I constantly thought of Mark. My anxiety was taking over and I was worried that everything that we might want was going to get overly complicated. After what seemed like forever finally fell asleep to the tv playing in the background.
