I sat across from my parents in the living room, and bit my lip as I considered how I wanted to do this. Eventually, I said, "So, um, I met somebody the other day." My dad nodded, and so did my mom. He said, "What is this about, Marinette?" I shifted, and looked down, "I know one of my parents was a god."
They didn't seem all that surprised. In fact, my mom stood and grabbed my hand. She said, "Come with us, Marinette." I followed them to their room, and my dad pulled something down from the closet. He laid the box on his bed, and turned to me, "We knew you would find out eventually, no matter how long we tried to hide the truth from you."
My mom placed a hand on my shoulder, "Marinette, you are not a demigod." I widened my eyes, "But, Kelli and Grover both-" My dad held up his hands, "You were a full fledged goddess." My eyes couldn't have opened wider. Eventually his words clicked, and I said, "W-Were?"
He nodded, "You are the correct age. You have only been alive for fifteen years. But, your immortality was stripped from you. Along with some of the abilities that come with godhood." I placed my hand on the wall, trying to steady myself, "Wh-Why?" My mom sat on the edge of her bed, "Let's start at the beginning."
I nodded, and sat beside her on the bed. My dad said, "You were brought to us in the middle of the night by a woman who said her name was Athena. She handed you to us and told us that we needed to protect you." My mom grabbed my hands, "See, your aunt wanted to kill you."
I looked over and said, "Who are my parents?" She smiled, sadly, at me, "Your mother was a woman named Persephone. And your father, a man named Hades." I gasped, recognising the names. My mom nodded, and said, "Hera was angry, and she chased after you when you were barely a day old. Hades stripped you of your immortality, and gave you to Athena."
My dad finished, "Athena managed to bring you to our house, giving you a blessing of wisdom and strength. Before she left, you were also blessed by the goddess Aphrodite. You've always been good at anything you've tried. Athena gave you that gift. And you've always had at least a few boys following your every move. That was from Aphrodite. Athena also gave you another, physical gift."
They walked over to the box, and I followed. My dad unlatched the end of the box, and I saw a simple circle of gold metal, and something that looked like an oval that had been partially cut off. My mom pulled it out of the box and handed it to me. The second it touched my hands, they glowed faintly and transformed into a bow and arrow.
I widened my eyes and my dad said, "She gave you those weapons in order to protect yourself." I looked at them, trying to imagine them as the weird hair clip thing they had been seconds ago. And they flashed again before transforming back. I held them to my parents, "What even are these?"
My mom smiled, and said, "Let your hair down." I hesitantly pulled my hair out of the ponytails that had held them up for so long, and my mom stepped behind me. She pulled half of my hair up behind my face, and showed me in the mirror as she placed the circle over my hair, and pushed the other one through the gathered bunch of hair, holding it all in place.
A few hairs fell into my face, and I felt a grin. I turned to the mirror, and felt very proud of how I looked at the moment. I turned to them and hugged them tightly, "You might not be my parents, but I'm very happy I met you. And I love you more than my birth parents."
They hugged me back, and then the doorbell rang. I glanced out the window and saw that dusk had begun to fall. I turned back to them and said, "Uh, I also kind of met another demigod and he's bringing me to the camp today." They widened their eyes, and my mom eventually said, "Will you be able to come back?"
I nodded, "I'm going to come back in a few weeks." They nodded, hugging me again. And I went to the door.
