"Excuse me but what did you say?" Miah asked her adaptive mom as she sat in a couch in her home office.

"Our friends arrived last week from Europe. Remember Mr. and Mrs. Smith?" Her mom asked as she poured herself a glass of champagne.

Miah nodded in reply not really happy about being summoned by the woman just as Jungkook dropped her off. How could she forget the Smiths? They're their long time business partners who've been hinting for a marriage arrangement between her and their son since forever.

She just turned 13 when the Smiths started courting her parents for her to be betrothed with their only son. Miah has always thought of it as a joke. Besides, her parents never really responded formally to the offer. They would just laugh and tease the Smiths about being so old fashioned.

Now, it seems like her parents have finally stooped their lowest as they force Miah to marry the heir of Smith & Co., top manufacturing brand of Swiss watches in all of Europe if not the entire world.

"They're coming over with their only son so you can formally meet your fiancé." She announced not caring about how Miah would feel.

"Mom, I can't be engaged with someone I don't even know or haven't seen." She pleaded with her mom.

"That's why they're coming over Miah." She said in reply.

"Please don't do this. I've done everything you asked me." That's a pretty accurate way to describe Miah. She gets excellent grades, has a sterling record and a great reputation. Not once did she get into trouble. All for the sake of satisfying her adaptive parents and make them shine in the society.

Miah has worked hard and has never failed in anything. She never objects to her parents and has given them every reason to be proud of her. She never asked her parents for rewards or anything in return. She just wanted to save it for something important and now is probably the right time.

"Please, I think I earned the right to have a say in this." She pleaded but her mom wasn't paying attention. "I never asked you for anything. Please, just this once let me decide for my own."

"It's not your decision to make in the first place Miah. Whether you agree or not, you will meet the Smiths and your fiancé." The woman said and gestured for Miah to leave.

Miah buried her face in her pillow and cried her heart out. This is why she doesn't like many good things happening at the same time in her life, somewhere down the line she knew something bad will definitely lurk to spoil everything. She's been so happy spending time with Jungkook that the world had to balance it off with a major adversity, her so-called "engagement."

She looks at her hand and kissed the portion where Jungkook kissed. She shouldn't have gotten close to him. Now all she thinks of is how to avoid him and keep him away from her life without hurting him.

Miah walks through the familiar hallway, going to school feels more like a sacrifice now. She's so lost in thought that she didn't take notice of Jungkook already taking the seat beside her.

"Good morning." His voice sounded so happy.

She glanced over to her side seeing Jungkook placing 2 cups of iced coffee on the table. She stared blankly at them for a while and looked away.

"Let me see your hand." He asked for her injured hand but she acted as if she heard nothing. Jungkook didn't understand what was going on. They were perfectly fine last night but now, the weekend seemed like a dream that never happened. Miah was back to her usual self, stone cold.

Jungkook tried to ignore it and handed the iced coffee to Miah. He carefully inserted the straw and place the cup in front of her but she acted as if there was nothing there. Ari faces Miah, sees the coffee and snatches it away. Jungkook kept staring at Miah but she just went on staring anywhere but him. She's doing a great job treating him like dirt in front of their classmates.

Jungkook however didn't mind. He kept staring at Miah letting her know that he's not backing out. First period bell rang and Jungkook didn't have a choice but to straighten his seat. What has he done wrong? Was it the kiss? He doesn't understand, it wasn't even on her lips, it was just a quick peck on her hand. Was he too forward? He'll find out soon enough what's causing this. He'll make sure Miah talks to him whatever it takes.

Lunch break bell rang and Jungkook blocked Miah's way out of the table. She knew he did that on purpose so she remained seated in her place. Ari on the other hand didn't even notice and went out as soon as the bell rang.

The classroom was empty when Jungkook finally decided to turn his body towards Miah. "Do we have a problem?"

Miah pretended not to hear him and continued to stare blankly in space. Jungkook grabbed her bag before Miah could stop him. "Hey!" She said and tried to get her bag from Jungkook who clutched it away from her.

"I'm just going to apply your medicine and change your bandages." He said softly. Jungkook pulls out the brown bag he gave her yesterday and sets it on the table. "Hand?"

Miah obliged and reached out her injured hand. The moment Jungkook held it, she knew she's in deep trouble. Her heart started pounding and her stomach was churning. What's wrong with her? She can't feel this way towards him. It's harder to leave him if she starts caring for him.

Jungkook finished tending to her wound, placed the brown bag in her clutch and handed it to her. "I'm really sorry. I won't do it again, I swear." Jungkook said sounding remorseful. What's he talking about anyway? Miah looked at him while he bows in shame.

"I promise not to do that again, I won't kiss you or lay my hands on you unless you say so." Jungkook said almost in a whisper. "I'm really sorry. Can you please forgive me? Please don't stay mad at me too long. I don't think I can take it." Jungkook's eyes were glistening as if tears were about to escape from his beautiful orbs.

He thinks she's mad because he kissed her hand. That's just too sweet, Miah thought. "You're too good for me... You deserve someone way better." Miah stood up and was about to get pass Jungkook when he suddenly grabbed her arm and hugged it tightly, resting his cheek on it, not letting go. In no time she felt his tears on his skin.

Jungkook held on to her arm. "I don't want someone else... I want you Miah, only you."

"Please trust me, it's better we end this now before it gets more complicated." With that Miah pulled her arm and walked away leaving Jungkook in tears, confused and broken.

Miah ran to her car and the moment she got in she held on to the wheel tightly and cried her heart out. She can't come back to class in this state so she texted Ari and said she's not feeling well and had to go home.

Tonight she's about to have dinner and meet with her fiancé and his parents. She doesn't have a choice, besides she was brought up to please her parents, nothing more. She was like an ornament in the house, she had to stay pure and perfect so that others will admire her and her parents for raising such a kid like her.

Jungkook got a hold of himself and looked out the window only to find Miah crying in her car. He knows something else was up. She wouldn't cry this way if she didn't feel anything for him. He grabbed his bag and was about to run to her when his phone rang.

📞<Jin hyung Calling...>

📱JIN: "Get your butt over here now. Your mom is on her way to see you and she doesn't sound happy."

📱JUNGKOOK: "I'll be right there."

What is it this time? Jungkook thought, why would his mom suddenly pop up from nowhere? He hasn't seen his parents in months since they live overseas to run their family business. His parents would come to Seoul for important business but never about him and this made him worried.
