Chapter 18: Chingu

"I'll be around anytime you need me, just call when you're ready to go okay?" Jungkook takes off his seatbelt and leans over to Miah for a quick peck on the cheek.

"I hope he doesn't kick me out right off the bat." Miah says trying to ease her nerves before facing Hobi.

"He doesn't have the heart to do that especially to you." Jungkook reassured her.

"If this fails then we're gonna need a plan B." Miah clutches her phone before getting off Jungkook's car.

"Good luck angel!" He shouts out then drives off.

Miah makes her way to the car shop and immediately looked for her best friend. She almost didn't recognize him as he was sporting a short blonde hair.

Miah leans on one of the cars just behind Hobi. "Hey stranger!" She catches his full attention as she smiled widely at him.

"Hey... what are you doing here?" Hobi threw her a weak smile and walked over to look at a bunch of papers piled up on the desk.

"Visiting you." Miah walked over to him but was only greeted by his back.

"Sorry I'm really busy, you should've called first." That sentence made him feel ridiculous since they both know she's been calling nonstop.

"Yeah about that, did you change your number or perhaps lose your phone?" Miah asked.

<crickets>

"Cause I've been trying to contact you for days but somehow my calls don't get through. Even my messages were left hanging." Miah says as she tries to catch a glimpse of Hobi's eyes.

A loud cheer from the back caught your attention as Hobi's dad comes out of his office. "Hey Miah, I haven't seen you around lately. How've you been all this time?"

She walked over to him and gave him a hug. "I've been good. How are you?"

"Owww you know, nothing fun happens here when you're not around." He teases gesturing over to Hobi. "Oh wait, there's something you need to see. Wait for me upfront."

She stood by the front door of the shop and saw Hobi's dad driving a classic 1959 corvette... Betsy.

"No way!" Miah squealed and went over to the beautifully restored car she used to work on with Hobi and his dad for months! It took them forever to get it fixed that they had to name it eventually.

"Hop in! Let's take Betsy for a ride." Mr. Jung said with a proud smile.

Just then his assistant came rushing out with a worried smile on his face. "Boss, Mr. Lee is asking for a refund..."

"Again?! That old hag has been up our butts since last week!" He boomed in. "I'm sorry Miah, I need a raincheck."

Just then Hobi went out and his dad threw him the keys. "You two take Betsy for a drive. Be home before dark!"

"This is soooooooooooo COOL!!!" Miah shouts out spreading her arm out of the car feeling the harsh breeze as Hobi drives through the highway.

Miah stands up and holds on to the front rail. Her hair blown back felt so refreshing. Hobi looks at her from the driver's seat and smiles.

They decided to park overlooking the city with a great view of the blue sky. Leaning on the car, you both munch on the hotdog sandwich from the gas station.

"I almost forgot how good this tastes!" Hobi says between chewing.

"Seriously? You're like a few blocks from the store. Gosh if I were you this will be my daily meal." You replied before gulping from a can of soda.

<crickets again>

"I'm sorry Hobi... for whatever I did or didn't do... I''m very sorry." Miah says looking to the horizon. "I've been so caught up with my issues that I forgot I have a best friend."

<silence>

"I wish I knew exactly what it was that got us here but seeing how you're keeping silent, I think you're not yet ready to tell me."

"You didn't do anything Miah. This is all on me." Hobi says feeling ashamed to admit it.

"Classic Hobi is getting back... always taking the blame for everything." Miah smiles and looks to see how Hobi reacts. "Listen, remember prom? You once told me you wanted to come to my prom so let's go okay?"

Hobi's face lights up. "How about Jungkook? Is he not coming?"

"We'll all go as a group, that'll be more fun don't you think?" Miah says trying to convince her best friend.

"No Miah, it's prom. You're not suppose to be in a group date at prom." Hobi says in dismay.

"Come on! It'll be more fun. I can even set you up with someone so we could go on a double prom date. What do you think? Huh? I see a smile over there!" Miah pokes Hobi's cheek.

"Miah... you don't get it do you? After all this time you still don't get it?" Hobi asked.

"What do you mean?" She asked taking his hand and starts stroking it gently.

"Miah, why do you think I'm always available when you need me? Why I always come to you when you ask?" Hobi asked sounding frustrated.

"Because we're best friends?" Miah asked

"Miah I like you... i like you not just a best friend."

Now it's Miah's turn to be silent.

"I think you get why I can't go to prom right?" Hobi asked her.

She nods her head silently. "I wish there was something I can do to make you feel better."

"Actually there is... just wait for me until I get my shit fixed. I promise you'll get your best friend back." He said in all honesty.

"Just don't take forever okay? We still have a lot of things in our bucket list remember?" Miah says with a caring smile. She loves his best friend but not the same love he has for her so she lets him go... just for now.
